    Pets on Long Distance Trains

No, I didn't ask. Basically because the one guy had 2 of them. And when I talked to him he acted so matter-of-fact about it that I thought they had changed the rules since I last rode.

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024

I think the scenery is pretty nice.

    Pets on Long Distance Trains

I recently took the Auto Train from Sanford to Lorton as I have done many times before. I was pleasantly surprised to meet 3 dogs on this trip. I talked briefly to the owner of 2 of them, who said his older dog was taking his 18th trip on the Auto Train. These 2 were medium sized dogs, neither...

Help needed with long distance Amtrak trip planning

The Empire Builder from Seattle does not go through the Columbia Gorge. The Baby Builder leg from Portland does, but it leaves going eastbound late in the afternoon. So, in winter you would miss most of that experience due to the shorter days. In summer, it is spectacular. For this, and the...

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024

Brightline's website has pretty good instructions (https://www.gobrightline.com/train-stations/fl/) about parking (garage C, level 5) and what address to use to get to the drop off point (10705 Jeff Fuqua Blvd.). If you plug that address into google maps, it takes you right to the ground level...

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024

I rode Brightline about a month ago and the train going south in the afternoon had the windows unwrapped (YAY!). I took the late train back to Orlando the next night and that one still had the windows wrapped. I'm just glad it wasn't the other way around. I hope they get all the windows cleared...

    Electric and Hybrid road vehicles

I drive a 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid with more than 100k miles on it. After 14 years the battery is still 75% good. Still getting more than 30 mpg. I put solar on the house, and a charger in the garage in preparation for my next car, but haven't settled on a definite EV or PHEV model. (It won't be...

Brightline Orlando - West Palm Beach - Orlando

Sunrail should have started with service from the airport to the tourist attractions/areas and downtown. They would have quickly made enough to fund a robust regional transit service for those of us who live here. But, no, they expected a network designed for local commuters to make enough money...

Which US airlines do you recommend for domestic service?

I fly in and out of Portland, Oregon from the east coast at least annually. If the schedule considerations are equal, I will pick Alaska Airlines every time over United. Excellent customer service and reliability, in my experience. Alaska is not a budget airline, and thankfully, they don't act...

    VIA Canadian sleeper questions

Yes. The room is beautiful and the service was absolutely superb. It was our trip of a lifetime. The bed is truly a double (full size) bed. Not large people, we slept fine, even though we were used to sleeping on a king at home. Some large folks might have trouble with the size of the bed.

    Amtrak delays

When these situations happen in the southeast, is it Amtrak or CSX who decides to reroute the train? Is it CSX's responsibility to prioritize the passenger train over freight trains?

Auto Train: Why not more routes?

It costs about $500 to rent an economy car for a week out of Orlando Airport, including all the fees they tag on at the end of the transaction. Your car can go both ways on the Autotrain for about the same, on any given 2 dates no matter how far apart. So, the car transport pays for itself over...

    Auto Train Room 14

I use the Autotrain on a regular basis. I have traveled in roomettes both upstairs and downstairs on the Autotrain. I agree with the pros and cons listed by Steve SFL. The summary for me is view vs. bathroom proximity and selection. Upstairs you share one bathroom with 9 roomettes. Downstairs...

Washington DC Union Station facilities, convenience and experiences

Anyone know the status of Amtrak's lawsuit to get full control of Union Station? I personally won't miss Starbucks, but hate to see this place deteriorate. https://www.washingtonpost.com/transportation/2022/07/29/dc-union-station-starbucks/

Canada coast to coast dream trip

My husband and I did our bucket list traincation in summer 2019: WAS to NYP, Maple Leaf to Toronto, VIA Prestige class to Vancouver, Cascades to PDX, Empire Builder Portland to CHI, Cardinal back to northern Virginia. It was spectacular. For us, the Prestige class was well worth it. The rooms...

    # 28 or #8 ?

The ride up the Columbia River on the Baby Builder, lit up by the setting sun behind you, is nothing short of amazing. Take that flex meal to the lounge and plan to spend the evening. Unforgettable.

Renting a car from an Amtrak station

Portland (OR): First of all, many would say "Why? You don't need a car in Portland." But, we visited Portland annually and rented a car so we could traipse around the Pacific NW at will. No matter whether we arrived by plane or train, we did not rent a car at PDX airport, but always downtown...

    It’s a train family reunion…maybe?

Just curious...Why roomettes on the CS if you are getting off in Monterey? Just don't want to do coach even though it's all daytime?
