    conductors still scanning e-tickets?

I took the Downeaster last weekend to Boston and back, and they scanned my eticket off my Android device on the way down. I had a paper ticket issued in POR for the return trip. I have yet to see an advantage to the eticket system - except to Apple who sold Amtrak a whole lot of new iPhones -...

How to reduce kb to upload pic

It is also possible to open the picture in an editor, and reduce the dimensions of it (pallette size in pixels - height and width) without cropping any more... then save it again. Keep trying until the size becomes acceptable.

    AGR Enrollment Referral Requests

I sent it in... after you travel within 90 days, we both get 500 points. Welcome to AGR and our forums!

Increased Prices Have Shut Me Down, Again.

Not a new idea, but worth repeating: the best thing about AGR trips is, it does not matter where the buckets are on the day you want to go... as long as there is a seat or a room available, for your redemption, it is the same cost (in points). On longer rides the cost is way better than paying...

Man in handcuffs taken off Southwest Chief, March 9, 2013

I have never watched any of those shows, actually no tv at all. And I haven't smoked cigarettes in decades. #3 I'll leave blank...

    Best Side for Scenery

Agreed... also thru CT and RI and some other places, very nice views of the water. (One of my favorite things about trains is that whenever they are near a waterway of any kind, they are usually very close in places...)

Zephyr best seats and best side chicago to SF

As in another recent thread, I'm agreeing again with The Traveler, that the SSL (Sightseer Lounge) is the best place to sit coming West out of Denver. You can see both sides of the train very well. That said, a lot of people feel that way and so that car can get very crowded. Still, I have...

    Best Side for Scenery

I agree with The Traveler, the lounge or cafe car is almost always the best for scenery --- unlike a roomette, it gives both sides of the train. Coach does that as well, but the high seat backs only allow viewing out your own window or directly across. In the cafe, with its low seating, you can...

AGR Spring/National Train Day Promotion coming 3/18

Well... actually, it may be a fairly small "certain segment" of Amtrak travelers who are going to take multiple rides on National Train Day to get extra AGR points too ... I am an AGR member, but have no idea of doing that... I am hoping for something entirely new and different ... but I have no...

    State of Maine News

OK. Ironic, that the waterfront is where one would expect there would be tracks (in an earlier era) in any port. There was a narrow gauge rail running along the harbor at Commercial street, I walked a long ways along it a few years ago. I'm not even sure it is still there.

    AMTRAK Customer Service Survey

I've responded to two of the surveys. While wishing I could comment on specific facts about my trip, I still feel that it it useful to participate. If i feel strongly about something specific, I never hesitate to call or write to customer service. They do listen and respond. It's kind of like...

Thanksgiving Weekend AGR shopping portal bonus

I made a Shoebuy purchase during the same promotion and did not get points for almost 3 months. I had to call, and then email twice. The email responses to the call and the first email were basic "form letters", and said I did not qualify for the points. The second email I sent was just a wee...

    State of Maine News

That makes sense - the POR station is outside of downtown for sure. I am not really in the know about proposals - my prejudice is toward long distance travel, and so I'd welcome more runs from anywhere in Maine to pretty much anywhere else. But it still makes sense to me - since there already is...

    Points expiration

I think you need to do at least one trip within 3 years to keep the points active. You are right about the card, then they won't expire. I got 32,000 points a couple of years ago with the new card, well worth waiting a while for I'd say. Unless you have a lot of expenditures coming up...

    State of Maine News

Interesting. I don't know how the tracks work out, but it would seem a shame not to have the train originate at the Portland Transportation Center, which is already served by Amtrak's Downeaster as well as Concord Coach Lines. That said, what would appeal to me a lot would be a train from...
