Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

If they’re still following the plan from a while ago, it’s on pages 10-14 of this document. https://sjjpa.com/wp-content/uploads/SJJPA-Board-Meeting-May-31-2019-Presentation-3.pdf

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

Much of the Virginia plans were covered in the ceremony in Alexandria on Tuesday. Some of it is long term. https://www.railwayage.com/passenger/virginia-amtrak-csx-advance-3-7b-rail-initiative/

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

It’s been a while since I read this information, but I thought the Siemens Venture cab cars were supposed to be strengthened specifically to address this general concern.

Pages 10-14 cover the deployment schedule for the different kinds of cars at the time this was published. Vending deliveries starting before cab cars. https://sjjpa.com/wp-content/uploads/SJJPA-Board-Meeting-May-31-2019-Presentation-3.pdf

One item that I found interesting in the NGEC annual meeting minutes from February is that the VIA test trains being constructed include cab cars...

Stadler, let testing begin on Caltrain kiss .

This train underway does give me a 21st Century vibe. BTW, I did read somewhere that the flat cars were new.

They should be on their way soon.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

My guess is that Amtrak decided on a new overall look with the wide red stripe on the bottom, etc. It ended up on the Acela 21 and these Venture cars. And, the Midwest locomotives were before that decision. Does anyone know? The mostly blue LD scheme on the Chargers is supposed to be replaced...

RFP issued for Amfleet I replacement

At least from what I read, the inability to make schedule ties directly to the trains being underpowered when using diesels. And, the low diesel power is the result of an assumption that all the electrification projects that were planned would be completed resulting in a higher percentage of...

WSDOT retiring, selling Talgo trainsets, not acquiring "Wisconsin" trainsets yet

The last I saw (https://sjjpa.com/wp-content/uploads/SJJPA-Board-Meeting-May-31-2019-Presentation-2.pdf) there were technical questions that needed working out before the mini-high platforms could be built. Are the plans and schedule Now complete? I also wondered if the wheelchair lifts would go...

WSDOT retiring, selling Talgo trainsets, not acquiring "Wisconsin" trainsets yet

Just to clarify, gap fillers are for high level platforms or low level platforms with a ramp or lift to take wheelchairs to the higher level. They can’t directly replace wheelchair lifts at a door for low platforms. California will have high level boarding at more stations over time.

WSDOT retiring, selling Talgo trainsets, not acquiring "Wisconsin" trainsets yet

Also note that the 1B cars (end cars with two doors per side) are deploying the gap filler for high level boarding on the end nearest the NPCU/loco. This would not normally be done at a low level platform. The doors on the 1A cars (one door per side) and the second door on the 1Bs are for low...

RFP issued for Amfleet I replacement

As another data point, the new Caltrain Stadler EMUs have wheelchair lifts to provide access to the lower and intermediate levels for the entire length of the train (now up to seven from six cars). With only one rest room per train and provision for boarding on both of these levels, this is...
