Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Do these additional cars bring the total up to 146? wisconsin-department-of-transportation-wisdot-wisdot-awarded-federal-grant-for-new-passenger-train-cars

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

I’ve been watching the Siemens Venture coach test videos using a stopwatch for speed estimates. The fastest I found was one train at around 105 mph. A couple were 95-100 mph. Everything else was slower. It is amazing how fast around 100 mph seems on a close video.

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

I think that this was posted earlier, but note the horns. https://images.app.goo.gl/HnQdnCz964kKQQ9P7

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

Although, it certainly doesn’t completely compensate, the shorter cars on the #NewAcela with fewer people per car means it is not quite as bad as it seems.

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

I saw a mention on another forum (on the purchase of 137 (now 146) Siemens single level cars) of a possible test last night (31st-1st) for the Acela on NEC. Any word of a test actually taking place? BTW, there is a little interesting Acela information in the 2020 Amtrak Procurement Presentation...

It’s the lower right drawing on page three. You have to blow it up to read it and see details.

Some additional presentations, including one from VIA, are now at the site. Someone pointed out to me that page three of the Amtrak procurement presentation includes a simple cutaway of the new nose. If you enlarge the graphic, you can see the general idea.

Other than the VIA presentation (specifically mentioned in the minutes), the minutes may well cover all the information from the meeting. There may not be any need for a separate passenger car presentation. This differs from previous meetings, but could be the method for handling 2020 meeting.

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

FWIW, I tend to agree. Much of the time people are looking at the side of the train anyway. Photographers tend to worry about the angled shots. With the dots and solid blue, does anyone else see a vague family resemblance to the Amtrak Midwest scheme? I personally like the new Acela scheme...

FYI. The Bill Christian photos on Flickr start at: Note that this appears to be the final paint scheme.

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

It’s been a while, but I am pretty certain that I remember reading that the Alstom (Avelia Liberty) Acela trains were going to be the first to use the latest generation of short power cars with others to follow such as the Horizon. Based on that, these could be plausible: 1. They were designed...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

It’s been a while, but I think they used a similar phased approach when they were testing/introducing MARC Chargers on trains with paying passengers. First, they had a Charger as a trailing unit behind a MP36PH-3C. Then leading a MP36PH-3C. Finally, the Charger was trusted by itself. That...

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Thank you. It will be interesting to see what the 2020 NGEC annual meeting says concerning the cars being purchased for Caltrans. The 2018 annual meeting presentation had slightly different types of coaches compared to the 2019 meeting. This SJJPA presentation from later in 2019 has another...

I know that this is nine months old, but it contains information that I hadn’t seen before. I searched and was unable to find a previous post with this document. However, I’m certainly not perfect. https://sjjpa.com/wp-content/uploads/SJJPA-Board-Meeting-May-31-2019-Presentation-2.pdf

UK Hydrogen trains: Are these the eco-friendly trains of the future?

The disadvantage of H2 fuel cell trains is that they are often less efficient than electric batteries. Both are environmentally friendly at the train. As pointed out, either can be good or bad environmentally overall, depending on how the electricity or hydrogen is made and distributed. The...

    Marta order for Stadler USA

MARTA is obviously planning on at least six car trains (made up of three two-car sets). Being a regular WMATA rider, the one item that stands out in the drawing is the guard/buffers at the end. These will end up between some cars when four or more are formed into a train. Although there are...
