    The 'Ocean'......First Run! (with photos)

Actually quite simple 🤔 Open cab door. Climb down and meet station agent with cart at baggage car door (2nd Engineer below in safety vest) Load baggage into car and return to cab. Resume duties of 2nd Engineer and Train Conductor. (VIA does not have Conductors in the back) It's worked for 25...

    The 'Ocean'......First Run! (with photos)

After nearly 17 months......here's the first run of VIA's Ocean making it's way west through Truro, Nova Scotia this afternoon..... August 11, 2021. The Ocean now uses a hybrid mix of Budd and Renaissance equipment. As the train is no longer turned in Halifax it will operate with a...

Canadian border reopening; how soon will international railrestored?

My last ride on the 'International' was on a Superliner between Toronto and London back in 2002. I have video somewhere. .......and here's an interesting TSB Report where a Superliner set was involved in a grade crossing accident on the Goodrich-Exeter Railway.....east of Guelph in 1999...

    Maine Beach Train Nostalgia

It’s 54 years ago this month since the last Passenger Specials to the Maine Beaches ran on the 295 mile CN-Grand Trunk route between Montreal and Portland. After regular, year round service was discontinued in 1960…..CN continued to run and advertise summertime Passenger Specials for another 7...

Canadian border reopening; how soon will international railrestored?

The land border is still going to be a mess on Monday. Watching a couple of news reports......there's a lot of people that just haven't looked at the requirements such as the pre-arrival testing, fully vaccinated for 14 days and uploading all that information to the ArriveCAN App before you get...

    VIA Rail's 'Coat of Arms'

VIA Rail has their own Coat of Arms https://reg.gg.ca/heraldry/pub-reg/project-pic.asp?lang=e&ProjectID=3218&ProjectElementID=11363 With interesting Symbolism: “Black and yellow are the corporate colours of VIA Rail. The upper squares evoke the windows of a passenger rail car. The lower...

VIA's Ocean will return on August 11 2021

Nothing......just run it around the loop and it was properly orientated to depart west the next day. Here's the Ocean coming through the containers on the loop track.......then backing down into the station. Here's a long Ren Ocean in the Halifax Station (just below Tim Horton's!)

    GO Trains to London??

From the map.....it looks like a potential GO service might also be aimed at the commuter heading into London (metro pop: half million)........a reverse commute. The Line 'G' Route on the map is similar to the long gone London & Port Stanley Electric Interurban. It connected in St Thomas with...

    GO Trains to London??

I know there's a few here that would like to send the Renaissance cars back to the UK :)

    GO Trains to London??

Wonder what this is all about? It's certainly encroaching into VIA territory! GO was running some test trains July31/Aug1 between Toronto and London on the north line via Guelph, Kitchener and Stratford. GO already reaches Kitchener at 100 km out.......a London extension would add another 95...

'Canadian' Economy Class....and look at those meals!!

I'm pretty used to styrofoam now when trying to support local restaurants with take-out orders over the past 16 months.......but it's nice to see some are also using a more environment friendly paper product.

'Canadian' Economy Class....and look at those meals!!

Our hockey goalie from previous videos is back with another covid coach trip on the Canadian. And if anyone can sell you on a coach trip.....it's him! This time he's travelling between Toronto and Winnipeg. The Skyline Dome is still closed....but look at those meals served at you seat!

    Toronto Union Station....now 'essentially' complete!

Years late and a couple hundred million over budget.....the City of Toronto says the revitalization of Union Station is now essentially complete. This is the last phase that just opened...the GO Bay Concourse. The GO York Concourse and VIA Concourse have been open for several years. But looking...

Ferries, Ferries, and still more Ferries

VIA's Dominion Atlantic Dayliner has been gone since Jan 1990 and the Acadian Lines Bus also for a number of years...... but there are a couple of shuttle bus operators between Yarmouth and Halifax.

Ferries, Ferries, and still more Ferries

Here's a bit of an update: You'll have to find a way to get a little further up the coast. When the ferry resumes in Summer 2022 (not running now due to covid) it will be a Fast Cat from Bar Harbor, Maine (instead of Portland) to Yarmouth NS. This is the original CN Bluenose route...

Ferries, Ferries, and still more Ferries

Thanks for the video link. These are the inland ferries operated by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. There's 14 routes and they're all free. 3917_inlandferryservices_brochure.pdf (gov.bc.ca) But not to be confused with BC Ferries that operate the big ferries linking the...
