    NOUPT Upgrades to begin

I don’t think a thruway bus connection from Mobile to Pensacola and maybe like Ft.Walton Beach/Destin/Panama City would be a terrible idea.

    NOUPT Upgrades to begin

This is good news. New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal getting some love. https://nola.gov/mayor/news/september-2019/mayor-cantrell-celebrates-$6-643m-project-to-renovate-union-passenger-terminal/ Also, I like this quote from Amtrak... "Amtrak commends Mayor Cantrell and her leadership in...

Restoration of New Orleans - Mobile - Jacksonville Gulf Coast Service

Crescent - Why so bad south of Atlanta

I worked on the train. It doesn’t have anything to do with NOL or BHM - it’s probably because the other cities just don’t contribute very much. It’s a long way to go, 12 hours ATL-NOL, with only one city in between that puts significant butts in the seats (BHM).

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

This has been confirmed by a friend at the NOL crew base. As of October 1, no more full service dining cars east of the Mississippi.

favorite scenery on Amtrak usually passed through night, that you saw day due hours long train delay?

For me, seeing the area between Sandpoint,ID and Libby,MT from the eastbound Builder. So gorgeous.

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

IMO, either direction. The boxed meals I’ve had on the LSL and CL were far and away better than anything I’ve had on 58/59 since the food service was curtailed a couple of years back.

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

A natural progression, I guess. No one should be surprised. While this would absolutely be an overall meal service improvement on the CONO - the train I probably take the most - it’s a big downgrade for the Crescent, which I also ride often. Will have try to squeeze in one last ride on the...

Senate hearing on "Amtrak: Next Steps for Passenger Rail"

Crescent won’t be cut entirely south of Atlanta. ATL-NOL is one of the top 3 biggest city pairs on the entire route. Problem is, besides BHM, nothing between ATL and NOL generates much traffic at all. That’s why there’s no need for the full size consist year-round. Too bad it can’t be rerouted...

    FlixBus In the Southern U.S

Legroom was pretty comparable to Greyhound. Less than Amtrak, though. Yes, actually all the buses I’ve been on had different seats. All of the seats themselves were very comfortable with a good seat cushion. Biloxi - San Antonio was 10h20m and I was not uncomfortable at any point in the trip...

    FlixBus In the Southern U.S

I’ve ridden it twice now. The round trip to Houston that I mentioned earlier, and then two weeks ago, I did Biloxi-San Antonio-Austin. The buses are new and comfortable. None had the sliding seats as mentioned on that info sheet. The tipping thing is interesting, but the drivers didn’t...

    FlixBus In the Southern U.S

Tried out FlixBus from NOL to HOS this morning. $4.99. Clean, comfortable, wi/fi was fast, outlets worked. Brand new bus. Pretty good experience overall. The driver just scans the barcode and you board and go. The only en route stop was Baton Rouge. Overall trip time including a bit of traffic...

    FlixBus In the Southern U.S

Take NOL-HOS. Amtrak does it 3X weekly, and it takes 9 hours if on time, for $45 one way. You now have FlixBus, up to 3X daily starting in June, with 5h30m trip times and prices starting at $5. I think we’ll see further eroding Amtrak market share between these cties. The same can probably...

    FlixBus In the Southern U.S

FlixBus has recently started service connecting San Antonio, Houston, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Biloxi. Next month, they are adding a direct San Antonio - Austin - Dallas route as well as an overnight Fort Worth - Biloxi route via Shreveport, Alexandria, New Orleans, etc. I’d expect them...

    Empire Builder February 2019 delays

    Dinner on Cono train 59?

Just a choice of two deli sandwiches or a salad. Get something in Chicago before you leave.

    Empire Builder February 2019 delays

I was on 8 yesterday that was over ten hours late into Chicago. A combination of things slowed us down. * Sat outside the Cascade Tunnel for 3 hours waiting on freight trains. * Lost another 30min inside the tunnel with stalled engines. * Avalanche on Maria’s Pass caused delays in Glacier Park...

    EB 27/28 Meal Service

Salad with some grilled shrimp, bread, Oreo cake. It was ok. The shrimp were not fresh though.
