    Amtrak Service Reductions

I'd also guess just like others if Texas Eagle was reduced to 3 days a week service, that it'd be for on the 3 days that #421 and #422(the through Texas Eagle cars added and detached from Sunset Limited in San Antonio) run. I really hope this doesn't occur for October 2021, since Amtrak long...

    Amtrak Hubs

Yeah, I think you could make an argument that NOL is a hub station, since trains in 3 directions do serve it as of now. And of course whenever the Gulf Coast Limited to Mobile restarts again in the next few years, that it'll become 4. Too bad that to transfer between trains there, that...

Way to cut down losses on long distance trains

Wouldn't be surprised if train trips between Reno and Salt Lake City weren't high, due to the CZ times in Salt Lake City being late at night(11pmish going westbound, and something ridiculous like 3:30am going east). Fargo, ND also has this problem too(EB train times being something like 2 to 3am...

    RNO PDX Bus

Heh if you're getting errors with a lot of links you're clicking on that site, don't think I'd trust buying a ticket off of this site either! And also getting an error message when you try to see terms and conditions, really? Nope, doubt I'd trust a site like that myself. I'm sure some riders...

Sunset Limited - New Orleans to El Paso 6/3-6/4

I didn't find anything specifically saying coach ticketing is capped at 50%, but I did find this passage on Amtrak's COVID new procedures for their scheduled trains page: Limiting bookings: We are limiting bookings on most trains to allow for more physical distancing in seating areas...

Bucket List trip May 2020: trains 421, 4 and 50

I do remember when I rode the Cardinal somewhere in eastern West Virginia or western Virginia, that indeed there was some area along the Cardinal's route(going east on #50, btw) where the train felt shaky, due to the condition of the track! At least that didn't occur during while we were passing...

Sunset Limited - New Orleans to El Paso 6/3-6/4

Good to see your report about riding the Sunset, recently. And ditto with all the pics, which I enjoyed looking at! Am I right in thinking that Lafayette, LA, and Beaumont, TX are brief smoke/stretch stops for this train? I think I read they are, but correct me if I'm wrong. I do hope whenever...

Glacier National Park, and nearby towns (Whitefish, Essex, East Glacier, West Glacier)

I didn't realize there was a bus that ran, between Whitefish and Missoula. That is interesting to learn that such a bus runs, myself. That link shows the schedule, but weirdly doesn't mention what the fare is to each of the communities along that route. Wish I could find that info, somewhere...

    Houston, Texas

Thanks for posting that link, to the 1952 train timetables page! It's a goldmine, to look at all the various timetables of various passenger rail trains you can browse from that are saved there! The Katy Lines one was interesting, and showed a lot of the trains you could take from Houston...

    Houston, Texas

Thanks for mentioning all this info, about both stations! Do you remember the various cities and towns(or at least more major ones) you could take a train from Houston Union Station(now home to the Astros) to, back in the day? Also, I do wonder if the old Southern Pacific station(and demolished...

I can see (name of train) from my window/porch/etc.

Nope, it's one of 3 Metra lines that goes into Ogilvie Transportation Center(formerly Chicago and Northwestern Station). The other 2 lines are Union Pacific Northwest(to Crystal Lake and Harvard), and Union Pacific West(to Geneva and Elburn). As far as I know, there are no plans to reroute those...

    New National Menu February, 2020

I really hate thinking guacamole isn't a part of the new national dining car menu, anymore. :( Since last summer, I really enjoyed adding that to my burger, when I got that during one(maybe 2?) of the times I ate lunch in the dining car on the Empire Builder. That all said I'm sure I'll find new...

Missouri River Runner Schedule Change, Spring 2020

For #316, I believe there isn't going to be a schedule change for that train(2nd eastbound MORR train in afternoon), and that it'll remain the same time. It's only #311(1st westbound MORR train), where it'll allegedly run slightly earlier. #313(2nd westbound train), and #314 and #316(the 2...

    Amtrak photos

That whole stretch of scenery between Shelby and Williston(aside from noticeable oil fields once you get closer to Williston, North Dakota), is very nice. Aside from the oil fields on the ND side of the border(the only part I didn't care a lot about, but what can you do), you do briefly see the...

Empire Builder Coach Seats in East Glacier Park

For a lot of years, usually the entirety of Going to the Sun Road doesn't open till mid or late June. Though the opening date of the middle section of this road near Logan's Pass(the last section to be shoveled off of snow), varies each year. To the OP, I would suspect your whole group of 6...

Missouri River Runner Schedule Change, Spring 2020

I see. So I presume I'm right that #314 and #316 going east won't have any time changes, and ditto with #313 going west? Thanks for checking all this, btw. I do wonder if the schedule change for #311 is just temporary, or not. I also just checked the Service Alerts and Notices amtrak.com...

I can see (name of train) from my window/porch/etc.

So I can't exactly see the trains, but from where I live in Edgewater(Chicago neighborhood) between the L and Metra(Union Pacific North line to Waukegan/Kenosha), at times I can hear the sound of L(our subway system) or Metra trains passing by. Usually moreso late at night or early in the...

    Houston, Texas

At least I'd take heart that there still are a good bit of locations remaining, per this page(though the southeast Houston part of the metro now seems to have few left, unfortunately): http://www.jamesconeyisland.com/locs I'll consider doing a visit to James Coney Island, if I visit Houston...

How and when does Amtrak decide to add cars to a route?

If you ever ride the Empire Builder in the summer, as I did last June and July 2019, they definitely do some double stops for those who have a sleeper and get on/off the train in the smaller cities and towns along the EB's route. For example, I remember they did one in Williston, ND, and I think...

Missouri River Runner Schedule Change, Spring 2020

So is only train #311's time(which IIRC, is the first MORR train westbound of the regularly 2 scheduled from STL-KC) being adjusted to be one hour earlier, and not the scheduled time for train #313? Interesting, I do wonder if this schedule adjustment is a short term change or permanent change?
