    Secondary Midwest connection point

I've said in other threads the priority should be to create a secondary hub in either New Orleans or in Texas (San Antonio, Dallas, or Houston) to connect East/West traffic between Texas/California and Florida.

Priorities for expanding the national network

If we had two trains between Chicago and Denver, it would make sense to have one go to Los Angeles via Las Vegas aka Desert Wind.

    East / West through train

Also SL East or some train between New Orleans and Florida to give some sort of southern path across the country would definitely be useful. Think about traveling between New Orleans and Florida now or between Texas and Florida or California and Florida. Wouldn't it be more direct and...

    East / West through train

Have you ever missed a connection before? And if the train has a wait in Chicago, I'm sure they will let passengers off the train for a little bit like they do now on extended stops. But at least if you're delayed you're not stuck a whole day in Chicago (not saying Chicago is a bad place to get...

    East / West through train

Got any money? You're not taking any of my tax money for it.

    East / West through train

The dwell time in San Antonio is 9:55pm-2:45am (4 hr, 50 min). Assuming the TE didn't dwell at all and the CL/SWC didn't stop at all in Chicago (big assumptions), that would put the run time of the TE at 61 hrs flat and the CL/SWC combo at 60 hr, 50 min so they're practically comparable time...

    More Amtrak Service In Ohio?

    Not much better.

You've been appointed President of Amtrak....with a catch

Cal's plan keeps the Silver Meteor which includes most if not all of the stops that the Palmetto has now. If you have to cut LD trains, I'd rather cut the Palmetto than the California Zephyr or Southwest Chief. The Palmetto is the Silver Meteor without serving Florida. It's like if the Lake...

    More Amtrak Service In Ohio?

Not to get this away from Ohio service but another thing Amtrak really needs to do is to get service back between New Orleans and Florida to open up more east-west service along the south. Why does all service from East to West have to go through Chicago? If someone wants to go on Amtrak from...

    East / West through train

And yet, Texas Eagle CHI-LAX run time: 65 hr, 50 min Capitol Limited run time: 17 hr, 40 min Southwest Chief run time: 43 hr, 10 min Total: 60 hr, 50 min Add in the 6 hr, 5 min connection time as service time and you get 66 hr, 55 min Texas Eagle CHI-LAX distance: 2728 miles Capitol...

Chicago to Florida via Michigan. Problem solved!

    More Amtrak Service In Ohio?

I found some interesting statistics/slides over Twitter: Derek Bauman on Twitter: "Amazing proposal that all of us across the state of #Ohio and elected officials from across the spectrum can get behind. IMO this is perhaps the biggest game changer since the advent of Amtrak & the National...

    More Amtrak Service In Ohio?

All Aboard Ohio says Amtrak is actually pushing for it and has proposals in place. The plans were reported in Cincinnati.com. https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2021/01/29/amtrak-planning-expanded-passenger-service-cincinnati-chicago/4315943001/ " Four daily round trips with intermediate...

    Amtrak Service Reductions

If they want to use that logic they should also run the Lake Shore Limited 4X a week so Chicago-Cleveland also has daily service or at least stagger them so they have service on six different days of the week and passengers who want to go from CHI-NYP or CHI-WAS can always transfer (it sucks but...

You've been appointed President of Amtrak....with a catch

The OP (IndyLions) said that AutoTrain was given to a private company to manage and didn't have to be accounted for in the 10 trains. As for the Palmetto, if you are keeping the Silver Meteor you have most if not all of the route/stops along the Palmetto. The Silver Meteor (or Silver Star) is...

You've been appointed President of Amtrak, Corridor Version

State Corridors: Los Angeles-San Francisco (the actual city!) (possible extension to San Diego) Los Angeles-Sacramento (additional) Dallas-Houston Dallas-Austin-San Antonio Pittsburgh-Philadelphia-New York (Pennsylvania primary state) (additional) Miami-Orlando-Tampa (additional)...

You've been appointed President of Amtrak....with a catch

Leave it to jebr to find the loophole. IndyLions said you couldn't extend trains or combine them:) I actually extended the Crescent from New Orleans to San Antonio and the California Zephyr in my proposal(s) but jebr's is way better. I had proposed a new train combining the old Broadway Limited...

You've been appointed President of Amtrak....with a catch

For some reason I couldn't edit my past message. I reread the ability to having through legs up to 750 miles so I'd like to add a "Desert Wind" leg to the California Zephyr at Salt Lake City. If we're also in fantasy land, I'd also like to extend the California Zephyr to Los Angeles on the...
