AGR Credit Card change (October 2022)

I am a non-Amtrak AGR card customer of FNBO since I was a teenager. They gave me my first card when the credit card compnaies used to target university students heavily. Do they still do that, I don't know (I should)? I am not sure what data they are using for the catagorization, but they do...

Lockheed L-1049 Constellation and other propeller planes of mid-20th century

I am curious how this works? At flight idle, is that enough thrust to keep the Indicated Air Speed (not Ground Speed) high enough not to stall? Or, are their periods of updrafts as well in the Jet that allows one to nose down/idle throttle? Or something else I don't know about?

Lockheed L-1049 Constellation and other propeller planes of mid-20th century

Was it easier to change/check spark plugs only on a R-4360 as compared to a R-3350? :)

Cost of taking trains vs cost of taking other modes in the U.S.

How are some getting tickets 12 months in advance? I could only get 11 months to the day.

Nice Ballanca! I have seen the two Connies at Pima Air and Space Museum next to Davis Monthan. One of them was also one of Eisenhower‘s. https://pimaair.org/museum-aircraft/lockheed-l-049/ https://pimaair.org/museum-aircraft/lockheed-vc-121a/

    Union Pacific Heritage Donation Special

Unfortunately receiving reports it used IAIS out of Council Bluffs and not UP, so its not going to go within view of my work window. :( Around Atlantic, IA now, supposedly.

    Union Pacific Heritage Donation Special

"Union Pacific will be delivering a small portion of its heritage fleet that was donated to non-profit Railroading Heritage of Midwest America (RRHMA) in November. The donated equipment, which includes Challenger No. 3985, TTT-6 No. 5511, Centennial No. 6936 and several passenger rail cars, will...

Lockheed L-1049 Constellation and other propeller planes of mid-20th century

The Capelis XC-12 had quite an interesting biplane tri tail too. As seen in Flying Tigers and Five Came Back.

CONO, Illini, Saluki out of CHI, and stop at Cairo?

Yes, that was the site I had the problem with and confused me, the coordinates from that page did not have enough accuracy and places the old station behind the high school instead of further north in the train yard where it makes sense and likely really was.

CONO, Illini, Saluki out of CHI, and stop at Cairo?

Oh I found North Cairo, IL that has better coordinates. It was even north of Future City, at what looks like some train yard at the end of Kessler Rd., at more of a ground level location. We stayed at the Quality Inn a few blocks away. Dollar General seems to about be the only game in town.

CONO, Illini, Saluki out of CHI, and stop at Cairo?

We visited Cairo earlier this week. A very unique place. Trainwebs coordinates for the torn down station put It behind the high school. The route for the CONO puts it on the rails on top of the levy. How did the train route work when there was a stop, did they switch the train down to ground...

Lockheed L-1049 Constellation and other propeller planes of mid-20th century

There are still a few places a civilian can land on a PAR approach. KSTJ St Joseph MO, KCYS Cheyenne WY, KFHU Sierra Vista AZ, KPSM Portsmouth NH, KTOI Troy AL, and KVUJ Albemarle, NC (it may not be a complete list). I have looked at trying the one into St Jo as a training exercise but it is...

Lockheed L-1049 Constellation and other propeller planes of mid-20th century

Interesting…. Both the Constellation and the DC 7 had R-3350 Duplex Cyclones. The DC 6 had the Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp. The R-3350 was such an interesting power plant with its turbo-compound setup of turbines driven by exhaust gas geared to the crankshaft to delivery more...

MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) discussion

Do you use dark mode? I have had dark mode change colors enough that QR codes had trouble getting read from the screen (for other purpose, not MBTA related).

Superliner trains' removal and restoration of cars (2022-2023)

Oh I get it now, the bedroom is in a separate car! Best wishes the rest of the trip can go as well as possible for you all!

Superliner trains' removal and restoration of cars (2022-2023)

I am just curious, did you get an H room on the lower level and a roomette on a real transdorm car, or did you get a A-E bedroom and a roomette on a normal sleeper being used as transdorm? On the CZ normal sleeper transdorm we had in August the A-E were taken up by Amtrak employee type people...

    Moynihan Train Hall

I view the West End Concourse as right beside and below, in a way. I suspect the problem for a coach non-Metro Lounge rider the problem is finding out early which track to go to and I don't know the answer to that? If you did want to try this, once you do know which track, I would suggest...
