Has anyone here done every (current) Amtrak route, end to end?

I've done them all except the Cardinal. Also I've done the Sunset from Miami to New Orleans and from San Antonio to LA. So I'm missing the NO to SA portion. Also did the Broadway Limited and Montrealer before they were discontinued.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Not everyone wants to eat the minute they get on the train. Also in the NEC people are constantly getting on and off. It's glorified commuter rail for somewhat longer distances.

Ugliest and Soul-less Amtrak Stations Used in Metropolises Today

NY Penn? I guess you haven't seen the Moynihan Train Hall. Beautiful. That's where most of the Amtrak facilities are now.

Amtrak needs to build or encourage the freights to build 2nd track or longer/more sidings in typical freight congestion areas.

Agreed. But not to be political but it's apparent which political party blocks or votes against almost every proposal which suggests spending public money on expanding passenger rail.

Upcoming Amtrak LD Schedule Changes (2021)

The departure from NOL is WAY more convenient IMO. Hated that early morning departure.

Could Siemens Viaggio/Ventures be the next sleeper car?

There's no family bedrooms on the Viewliners, so no, they're not what I would call essential.

    Superliner Upper Bunk Solution?

Traveling solo I always sleep in the upper bunk in a Viewliner and the lower bunk in a Superliner. Prefer the Viewliner because I can use the lower area as my personal "living room" complete with a toilet! I'll miss that aspect in the VL II's.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Was pretty decent before they went to the standardized menu. I had thick center cut pork chops on the Lake Shore, pretty sure I had trout on the Zephyr and catfish on the Crescent. There was almost always a chef special that was really good. The standardized menu brought it down a big notch...

Need bagel shop recommendations near NYP

As long as they're fresh Zaro's is actually pretty good, and filling too. Convenient since they're right in the station.

RFP issued for Amfleet I replacement

Wrong. But it's impossible to argue with you because you don't listen to anybody else. You're all hung up on the word "preferred". The bidding is over. You've never of an RFP (request for proposals) with deadlines? Yes things can break down with the winner, but the bidding is over.

RFP issued for Amfleet I replacement

I don't think you get it. The bidding is over. What good is giving a deadline for bids if you keep accepting more bids? They've received all the bids by the deadline and made their choice. It's Siemens.

6 hour delay between cities 200 miles apart is preposterous!

Where are they going to put those five or six freight trains to allow the Amtrak train to go through? Do they have a siding to hold five or six freight trains? Think it through before making blind assumptions. We don't know the facts. Thats all I'm saying.

Upper level bar on Sightseer Lounge

Because basically everybody just downloads content onto their tablet or computer before the trip and watches whatever they want anyway.

6 hour delay between cities 200 miles apart is preposterous!

So the original post about a 6 hour delay due to freight interference is probably a bunch of nonsense. Nice. Yes I have seen plenty of delays because of freight but it's often not just because the freights are being given preference. There's siding lengths etc, unless you're in the dispatching...

Eliminating open-plan seating and having all cars be compartments

Let's be real. These are basically longer distance commuter trains. I think some people here have never ridden on them. They get packed between some of the cities in the NE. These ideas are close to ridiculous IMO.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Yeah, but the eastbound Lake Shore doesn't serve dinner leaving Chicago. So you're still talking a breakfast and basically one meal. Eastbound Capital serves a dinner and breakfast. So I don't see the difference.
  17. N

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Lake Shore westbound is a dinner and breakfast if you ride the entire distance. Flex dining is not great but certainly adequate for that. Same with the Capitol. Agree with you on the Crescent and Silver Service. That's multiple meals. Cardinal is kind of unique because there's so few sleeper...

Amtrak's own hypothetical national track infrastructure discussion

Exactly. Why people bother responding to the nonsense is beyond me.

    Lounge in Chicago

Nice towels are given to you. Liquid soap and shampoo are in the showers dispenser style. The showers are great, large and plenty of room.

RFP issued for Amfleet I replacement

Yeah well pricing them at fifty bucks a night would be a good thing too. But not for Amtrak.
