    Amtrak dining and cafe service

There is no Commissary in San Antonio, never was, so has no bearing on anything. The TE Diner was always stocked for a r/t out of Chi.

    Changed plans; inform Amtrak?

If it is the final leg of the reservation, it is not necessary. If you have a return built into the same reservation, you need to notify Amtrak, otherwise when you don't show for the short trip, the rest of your reservation will be cancelled.

Analysis of the Gardner/Harris May '23 train rides, intentions, speculations

    Great opportunity for some "studies"....

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Not totally true. The Acela FC meals are prepared at Aramark airport flight kitchens in Bos, NYP, and Wash DC.

    Canadian "Buffer Cars" discussion

Saw reports on Facebook today that the Buffer cars are being removed as of May 18 I think (or June 18). The final reports stated the cars are capable of withstanding the challenges they were concerned about.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

The FC cars actually started with 3 attendants, but they quickly showed Amtrak that 3 weren't necessary by one attendant hiding/sleeping for part/all of trip.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

When the Acela service was first introduced, they had 2 in that cafe. Also many years ago, they ran the longer NE corridor trains with two cafes, one in the center of the train, and a split cafe/Club Class on rear of train. Also, around holiday times and Fri/Sun runs they would have a second...

Train 51 Cardinal (28) terminated enroute

Train 51 suffered an HEP failure at White Sulphur Springs yesterday. Unable to repair, the passengers are housed at the local Holiday Inn and will resume their trip on Sunday.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Totally false. The Cardinal had a full service diner for many, many years, both with single level and Superliner equipment. Edited to add, I see Jis beat me to it. It did switch to Lounge car when the Heritage Diners were dropping like flies.

    Assigned seats on the train?

There were several red caps on duty in Alb when I passed thru a few months ago.....

    Atlantic Coast Service discussion

True with Flex. Was thinking (assuming) they were adding a waiter for the restored dining service.

It could also be a strategic manpower move. Eliminating the third sleeper frees up an attendant to work in Dining Car service.

    Coach restrooms

The coaches would not be removed from the train. Restrooms in the lounge and sleeper would be used. Worst case scenario, some passengers (like those boarding later in trip) may be bussed instead.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

No cafe or dining car ever opened at 530 am... 6 or 630 would be opening time and closing time is probably 11pm for cafe car.

    Absolutely correct.

Agreed. This has been done many times over the years...

Sad? you obviously haven't seen very many Amtrak dinner salads....:)

    Amtrak changed my accommodation

The other thing in your favor tomorrow morning is it is Saturday in the NEC, so a lot less traffic and more opportunity to make up time depending on the crew out of Wash DC.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

The BC attendant on the Carolinian was supported in part by the State of NC if I'm not mistaken. Not sure when it ended.
