    Departure time switched to TBD?

Like others have noted, I saw the same thing. Took the Chief out of Chicago last Sunday, big TBD beforehand with a service disruption notice. It disappeared the morning of. Possibly just a train they were monitoring the weather for - before making a determination whether it would run?

Weird Situation in Yonkers, trying to make sense of.

I was traveling from Yonkers to New York and then onwards to Boston. I booked separate tickets from Yonkers to NYC, and NYC to Boston. I booked both of these segments in September. I showed up in Yonkers for Amtrak #238 at 2:11pm, about 25 minutes early. I actually hadn’t checked the status on...

I did not know that - thanks for the comment. I also like your profile pic, Newark, DE, I’m headed there tomorrow.

USA Rail Pass for just $299 (1/10-1/17/25)

If you buy the pass today, you will have until May 10th to start the first segment. After you start the first segment, you have 30 days to complete the rest. Edit: Read @AmtrakBlue’s comment below, but I was wrong. All segments have to be completed within 120 days, and your first and last...

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC (2025)

Does anyone know if the Southbound Floridian consist turns around in Miami and heads back north the next day, or does it sit in Miami for 36+ hours. Or if the southbound is really late, is there a relief train that is available?

Empire Builder Fargo, ND to Chicago

As someone who regularly gets off and on in the middle of the night, what usually happens: (Texas Eagle, Cardinal, Southwest Chief, Sunset Limited). I’ll draw from the Cardinal. The new conductor gets on in Huntington who goes to Indy. After leaving Huntington, they will go through the coach...

Trip planning Olympia, WA circle trip

Yeah, it’s been pretty good. They started a slightly different schedule in April 2024 and it is working pretty well at keeping them on time (not the same story for the Chief, however). Average delay to Galesburg is only 35 minutes.

Trip planning Olympia, WA circle trip

Looking at both current and historical data combined @ juckins. com. The chance of missing your connection in Sacramento is between 0% and 3.3%. The chance of missing your connection in Galesburg is between 1.6% and 6.7%. The chance of missing your connection in Los Angeles is between 20% and...

Trip planning Olympia, WA circle trip

Sounds like fun! All of those are beautiful train routes (especially this time of year) and you should have a great time! What was said about trains being late is true, there can be delays of several hours, but all of your connections (except for the last one, in LA, which might be tight) are...

    A few SSL questions

#3 I was on a 2 hour late Illini in July and the cafe car was open and serving in the lower level of the SSL, with several people sitting in the upper level. I took 4 trips total on the Illini/Saluki, 2 of which had an observation car. I would guess it depends on the availability of the...

    Grand Central Sanderson Station

That’s great to hear! Sanderson was a really nice town and I would definitely go back if I get the chance! Best of luck to you.

    Grand Central Sanderson Station

I have not written a trip report about my trips and posted it on the forum, but I will keep it in mind on my next trip.

    Grand Central Sanderson Station

I might be the only person to have taken Amtrak to three of those stations in FY23. Those being Sanderson, Lordsburg, and Schriever. Sanderson was an incredibly nice and cute town in my opinion. I love to take Amtrak to small towns, and Sanderson was a gem. It wasn’t that hard to get around...

    Hello

The California Zephyr is realistically one of - if not the best - Amtrak trips in North America. The California Zephyr in its entirety takes 53 hours, 3 days and 2 nights, traveling almost 2,500 miles over 2 mountain ranges, between Emeryville, CA and Chicago, IL. The train is the only way...

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

I mean, how does this make any sense? Some glitch? I’ve seen instances where getting off earlier costs more (Newark Airport, for example), but something this egregious?

    New Member taking Southwest Chief

Well for your first segment (which I assume would be on the Lake Shore Limited) I can’t say much. I’ll start at Chicago. Since you are in a roomette on the Southwest Chief (SWC) you have access to the Metropolitan Lounge in Chicago. They have free snacks and drinks and plenty of comfortable...

    Long distance trains frequency

The following 2 Long Distance trains operate only 3 times per week: • Sunset Limited (New Orleans-Los Angeles) • Cardinal (New York-Chicago) All other long distance trains operate every day. It should also be noted that the Lake Shore Limited provides daily service from New York to...

New Orleans or Houston to Palm Springs

I’ve been to the station three times. Twice when taking the train and once when I thought I’d stop to see how the station looked (the area had just flooded and I was curious) on my way to LA. When I first took the train in at 4:30am there were several cars parked in the parking lot, doing...
