Why So Many Snobby "Roomette" People on Here?

I think many here are frequent riders that use AGR points to pay for their roomettes.

Are there Crying Kids in Roomettes?

Unless you bring one along with you, there won't be a crying kid in your roomette.

    Coors Field Denver CO

They used to "back" the train from Denver to Cheyenne, then run it in the opposite direction, i.e., "forward," for the rest of its trip, when the Cheyenne Amtrak station was in town (vice versa e/b, of course). Later, a station was built out of town, and the double reversals were no longer...

do people tip the conductor to get good seats in coach?

A "good seat" on a railroad car is any that is not close to or over the wheels. I think most service attendants (if they want to make a good impression) will help you find a good seat away from the wheels, if that is possible. Still, there's a great deal of variability among equipment, service...

Bustitution on California Zephyr in June!!!

My guess would be that the month's advance notice was a result of waiting for UP to announce the exact dates it would be doing its work.

Bustitution on California Zephyr in June!!!

As much as Amtrak passengers may not like being bustituted over the Donner Pass, if track work is to be done there, it just about has to be done during the summer. It's not a place where you want to be outdoors during the winter. If you don't know what I mean, just think about the circumstances...

detroit passenger trains in the 60's and 70's

I don't know about the names used for Empire Service trains, but New York Central's 4-8-2 steam locomotives (of which two survive) were called "Mohawks" (rather than "Mountains," a designation used by other railroads).

Cab footage of Train vs. Car

The APA information linked by Sorcha is probably accurate, but only in a general sense. Some young children show an incredible amount of maturity and common sense; conversely, some young and not-so-young adults show a nearly complete lack of these same qualities. Often examples of both can be...

    Savannah or Jacksonville?

Actually, most people that go there give Paula Deen's positive reviews, though some seem to have had experiences similar to those implied above.

    Overnight Trains in Vietnam

It's a legitimate question. Note that the poster said he didn't think the Vietnamese were using MiGs, but asked whether they were using old Soviet-bloc stuff. Many airlines in Third World countries use or have used aircraft that are obsolete in the First World and even in the major former...

Does Amtrak have enough diesel locomotives?

On most western LD routes, there is not that much 79 mph or even 75 mph running, so the delays caused by using a freight loco on many of those services would probably be minimal (especially in comparison to the other delays that tend to happen). There might be some fast running on the corridor...

Does Amtrak have enough diesel locomotives?

How much is Amtrak able to use freight locomotives on any of its trains? I would assume a lead engine from a freight railroad could be used with an Amtrak engine trailing (with the latter meeting HEP requirements), or are they mechanically incompatible for other reasons?

The No. 7 train doesn't stop at Uranus?

Is there even life on Uranus?

The No. 7 train doesn't stop at Uranus?

It's true. The w/b Empire Builder does not stop either at Brooklyn or on Uranus.

    Question re: Canadian

You could "ware" your underwear. Do you prefer boxers or briefs? They're called hors d'oeuvres. I don't know why the pronunciation is so different from the spelling, but that's French for you!
