I heard that Amtrak may resume dining car service on December 15th, according to their website. I am not sure whether the suspension may be extended or not.

Historical Amtrak service to Central Ohio

Thanks, I think I found out what I was looking for. Most of these cities lost passenger service on April 30, 1971.

Historical Amtrak service to Central Ohio

Something that I have always wondered was about Amtrak service to stations in Central Ohio. I know Amtrak stopped serving Dayton and Columbus in 1979, but what about the larger cities in the area like Springfield and Xenia. They seem large enough to have attracted Amtrak service. I saw a...

    Roomette vs Family Bedroom

Would you recommend lower or upper level seats on the Capitol Limited? Both teenagers are around 5'6''/5'8'' in height.

    Roomette vs Family Bedroom

I am planning to travel on the Capitol Limited and Southwest Chief. I have a couple of questions. We currently have 1 Superliner bedroom booked and 1 coach seat for 4 people. There are 2 adults, and 2 teens aged 14/16. 1. Would you recommend getting a 2nd roomette, bedroom, or upgrade to a...

    Election results and Amtrak

We may see less delays if Joe Biden appoints a pro-Amtrak attorney general. They might bring more actions against the freight railroads in court. Norfolk Southern/CSX (I forget which one), might be first up in line to be sued.

    New DOT Secretary?

If Biden wins, Amtrak service probably will increase, however, Trump's political party made it clear that they want to dissolve Amtrak and let a private party handle the Northeast Corridor. It all depends on what happens in Congress as well.

    First time on Amtrak

True, but the purple line runs rush hours only, in which case the pink line would be my only option

    First time on Amtrak

I have traveled to Chicago twice before, but with COVID I was not sure what it would be like, or the weather, especially because I went in March/May.

    First time on Amtrak

I am planning to travel on Amtrak for the first time ever from Toledo, Ohio to Kingman, AZ on December 17th. I will be traveling in a sleeper on one of the three daily trains that run along the corridor. I am considering cancelling my ticket for the segment from Toledo to Chicago, primarily...

Automatic Fare Collection as a Service

There were a couple of places that the MTA charged double fares. In addition to the Rockaways, they charged 10 cents instead of 5 for service to the World's fair.

    CTA Ventra

Ventra passes are available at all stations in a single ride and day pass in ticket format, and in 3 day pass ticket format at OHare and Midway station. Anywhere else, you will need to purchase a Ventra card to get a 3 day pass. However, if you buy a card, load $15 on it, register it, and then...

    Metra Electrification

A train line in Montreal converted from 3000 VDC to 25kv 60hz in the 1990s, and now they are converting yet again to 1500 VDC.

Boston MBTA: Why not EMUs or at least electric locomotives?

If they wanted to connect North and South Station via a tunnel, they would have to electrify all the lines.

    Outside Chicago

You could take Metra out to Woodstock, and then take an uber or DialARide to IRM. I did that once. Also, consider the fox river trolley museum. It's located in Elgin and is accessible by Metra and Pace. Link to dial a ride...
