    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

Any idea what type of horn and bell the Avelia Liberty will have? I assume the same K5LA/E-bell combo that the new Siemens locomotives have.

    MARC Fleet Dynamic

Have they decided on a specific unit yet?

    MARC Fleet Dynamic

Also, there was a big report from Amtrak back in 2018, I think. It mentioned that DC Union Station engine switches cause lots of congestion on the lower level tracks, as well as other inconveniences for passengers, and that the engine switches could interfere with future planned expansions. One...

    MARC Fleet Dynamic

Interesting. I guess VRE is doing fine with their MP36s, as they don’t go over like what, 70, and their first units went into service not even a full year after MARC’s first units.

Siemens Venture Coaches: What Purpose Will They Serve?

So, I take it Siemens cars very similar to these will eventually replace the Amfleets?

    MARC Fleet Dynamic

Considering that the MP36 locomotives are not that old, what is the purpose for the new SC-44 locomotives in MARC’s fleet?

Siemens Venture Coaches: What Purpose Will They Serve?

Just seems weird that they’re being tested on the NEC, when they won’t come any closer than hundreds of miles of the NEC once in service. Any idea (without having to sift through thousands of forum posts) what will eventually be used to replace the Amfleet in the East/NEC?

Siemens Venture Coaches: What Purpose Will They Serve?

Videos have surfaced recently on YouTube of new coach cars manufactured by Siemens operating on the Northeast Corridor? It appears that the doors on these cars are not quite level with the doors on the Amfleet. So, which routes will these cars serve: NEC/East Coast, Midwest, or West?

    Amtrak Fares Difference

I have recently noticed a common trend among some Amtrak fares. Looking at fares from Wilson NC to New York NY, both operated by the Carolinian and Palmetto trains, it would seem that the Carolinian is priced noticeably higher than the Palmetto. There are times when they’re both priced the same...

    Amtrak “Siri” and LED Signs

I would have expected Raleigh to have the new systems by now, if not soon, considering that 10 trains serve the station daily, with lots of expansion on the way in the future.

    Amtrak “Siri” and LED Signs

Does Tampa have the hanging signs that are being installed in Orlando, along with the Siri voice?

    Amtrak “Siri” and LED Signs

Yes, the new screen-signs that they are installing outside is exactly what I was referring to all along! Now to wait and see if the “Siri” announcements will be installed too.

    Amtrak “Siri” and LED Signs

That is true. The VRE stations have screens and audio systems for announcements, but it’s only for VRE. You can see and hear them in action in this video, filmed at the new-ish Spotsylvania station.

    Amtrak “Siri” and LED Signs

It has to come my attention in the past year or so that in Amtrak stations in some mid-size or smaller cities such as Durham, NC and Charleston, SC, a new automated sound system as well as LED signs that light up have been installed to make announcements regarding both station information and...

SEHSR (South East High Speed Rail) discussions

Centralia is in Chester, about halfway between Petersburg and Richmond, correct? And would trains on the S Line use the Petersburg station? If the RVM that you’re referring to is Richmond Main Street Station, the recently published news about the upgrades to Amtrak’s Virginia service from...

SEHSR (South East High Speed Rail) discussions

Rerouting the Carolinian on a shorter trip is what I thought they were gonna do, running on the NS Line from Charlotte to Raleigh, cutting Northeast on the CSX S Line from Raleigh to Petersburg, then continue the route on the CSX A Line/RF&P and Amtrak NEC as it always has. I also thought that...

SEHSR (South East High Speed Rail) discussions

When the CSX S Line tracks allow high speed rail between Raleigh, NC and Richmond, VA along the I-85 Corridor as part of the future SEHSR Line, what will that mean for the future of Amtrak’s Carolinian? I heard that the Carolinian could be rerouted onto the S Line for a much quicker trip between...
