    New Year's Day - daytrip

Wendy and I just decided spur of the moment this morning to use our Florida railpasses, and took Silver Meteor, (97-31, last 97 of 2008) WPK-WTH, only about 15-20 minutes late, and then Silver Star, (92-01, first 92 of 2009) WTH-WPK via Tampa. Very enjoyable, 92 was either right on time or...

    Florida Thruway Question?

Two possible solutions: If you are using a Florida Resident Annual Railpass, and are flexible as to when you actually take the trip, pick a day when 91 is running late enough, or 97 is running a couple of hours late, with 98 close to on-time, and take the thruway bus to ORL, and 98 to WPK, then...

    New SECTRAN and Amtrak

Especially when more and more folks have been unemployed long enough that their unemployment has run out.

    New SECTRAN and Amtrak

What's the difference? There isn't anything "left" as it is - they've BEEN spending huge oceans of money we don't have for the past few years anyway, long before the current stimulii packages and bailouts. At least they'll be spending it HERE, hopefully putting a lot of unemployed AMERICANS...

    2 train near-collision cover up?

Watching the news video full screen, Amtrak looks to be perhaps three feet, max, past the signal, maybe less. That's not a good thing, and a clear violation, sure, but there was no actual danger to any passengers based on the video. As has been pointed out, another 15-25 feet or so past the...

car goes through or under gates, 92 hits it, So. Orlando

The news (TV) reports, especially the interviews with the FHP spokesperson at the scene, made it pretty darn clear that it was the driver of the car that was at fault, NOT either CSX (owns those tracks) or Amtrak. She made it quite clear that this is the outcome that anybody who disregards a...

links: http://www.wftv.com/news/18166643/detail.html http://www.wesh.com/news/18166638/detail.html (They give the correct train number but wrong name Meteor instead of Star) http://www.myfoxorlando.com/myfox/pages/Ho...mp;pageId=1.1.1 Witnesses are quoted as saying the car appeared to be...

    Biggest Amtrak Doom Story Ever

Must have been several years - Sunset hasn't run East of NOL for quite awhile now.

    Flagler's Line Across Florida

I would extend Palmetto on down the FEC to Miami. If you mess with the current route of Star or Meteor through Central Florida, then you require a connection at JAX or SAV, because Meteor and Star do NOT take the same route, and do NOT cover the same stations, North and West of SAV. Right now...

    New Rail Passes

C'mon, guys, the election is over, I know there's hard feeling by a lot of people either way, but please let's try to leave the liberal/conservative name calling out of forum posts. If there is some congressional or administration action specifically about rail and Amtrak, then perhaps some...

    crew change points

Orlando has separate Arr and Dep times (usually a 15-20 minute stop), but that's because of the high volume of passengers - it is not a crew change point.

    WPK-TPA-WPK 8/29/08

Wendy and I took 91 and 92 on August 29th from Winter Park to Tampa and back. 91 was an hour and a half late but still got us into Tampa in time to take the TECO trolley to Ybor City and eat lunch at the Columbia restaurant, which was excellent as usual. Only one engine on 91. 92 was a few...

    Silver Meteor

Meteor on the 22nd ( 98 ) clipped the rear of a tractor-trailer down in southeast Florida - Miami Herald had the story. That would have cost them several hours, perhaps more than that, since there was mention of a broken windshield, which probably referred to the train's lead engine. From the...

    Trains Weather Limits

Pix I took from after Hurricane Charlie in 2004, in Maitland, FL, about 100 yards from the A783 MM. Winds peaked in the 90+ MPH area. http://westminstercasspc.org/graphics/pict0275.jpg http://westminstercasspc.org/graphics/pict0276.jpg I turned off the inline viewing to save bandwidth ......

    The Train Cars Act

Having read through the thread, I don't see that the current undercurrent of argument contributes at all to the thread. You can argue semantics till the cows come home without contributing anything of value to the thread. I'm not sure just why y'all seem to have pushed each other's "argue"...

    Sold out trains

WPK and ORL agents both told me no more FLA Railpasses will be sold after September 30. We just bought ours. If you do travel a lot in FLA and you live in FLA, the Florida railpass is a fairly good deal - $249, for in-Florida Amtrak travel as often as you like, for a year.

    Florida Short Trips

They ran the Palm/Palmetto route (Jax southwest thru waldo, ocala, wildwood, to Tampa and then south etc) primarily to handle U.S. Mail through there. When they decided to cancel that contract, they truncated Palmetto back to SAV and then added the dogleg over to Tampa and back onto the Star's...

When/Why was Sunset trimmed from Miami to Sanford?

I don't believe the State of Florida has any financial connection with the railpass. I also would much rather have a daily NOL-JAX train than a through Sunset 3x/week. A daily NOL-JAX (if not NOL-ORL) would be wonderful as a connector not just for the Sunset but also (and especially) for the...
