    Chicago METRA

An added bonus, if hourly service between downtown and O'Hare were to be added all day, is that this could effectively provide a very real rapid transit sort of service to a part of the city which hasn't seen such frequent and regular rail transit availability in decades. So if, for example...

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

To a certain extent, I think things have gone significantly downhill in the general waiting area at CUS in the last couple of years. This is, partly, due to homeless issues; with more people using CUS as shelter and a place to sleep during the day (which also accounts for why security now does...

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

I'm most interested in how any rush hour commuters from Milwaukee felt about the late arriving train to Chicago, as well as what passenger loads looked (or will look) like and whether there becomes any capacity issues on that train run.

I was seriously considering going out to watch them. Though, weather may change my plans. There were a lot of celebrants Monday who headed to the opening of the new station at Peterson on Metra UP North. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the same faces at the stations along Metra...

AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2025

Oh, clearly, Chicago is the complicated switching and transfer district indicated by the large circle with stops that don't necessarily connect directly: just like it was, historically, and the remains so via various Metra terminals.

Commuter trains used to cut cars. Dinkys with one engine and one gallery car could be seen on outlying branches of Metra, leaving the rest of the coaches behind at a major interchange station.

What, no "Chicago handshake?" (Old Style and a shot of Malort) Chicago's Garrett Popcorn And both Chicago and the Twin Cities have excellent local vegan restaurants. People travel to both places, specifically, to experience such.

Chicago - St. Louis Lincoln Corridor to begin higher speed running

    Happy National Train Day!

One year, at Chicago Union Station, the stationmaster was so proud of an historic Pensy engine he had managed to bring in for the event ("they said I'd never get it!") that he invited and escorted fans to its platform after the event ended to watch it run out of the station and return to the...

I'm thinking Wisconsin State Fair, perhaps? It isn't Lollapalooza (previous week.). Milwaukee Summer fest concerts are three weekends in late June/early July. Minnesota State Fair is late August/early September, starting right after the Democratic Convention. The surge for the Republican...

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

While I've taken the EB to St. Paul many times, I've never taken it back to Chicago from there (though once I took it from Seattle and traveled through the Twin Cities, quite late, eastbound) precisely because of the early scheduled departure. On the Borealis schedule, it's now no longer...

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

Looks like Amtrak wanted something to toot about on Amtrak Day. As expected, this is an extension of Hiawatha service already scheduled between Chicago/Milwaukee. I'm a bit surprized at the long layover scheduled in Milwaukee northbound. (Though not long at all south.) I'm also wondering how...

    Chicago Union Station discussion

Photos from this week illustrate that Redcap service is ready and waiting at CUS, including right outside the Met Lounge. A friend who rode out on the Texas Eagle (and was having mobility issues) confirmed that he received baggage service and a ride to trainside from the lounge. Redcaps have...

A sign outside the door on Canal does say redcaps are available downstairs (concourse.). I don't see why anything would have changed, other than occasional short staffing, (perhaps) particularly during the height of the pandemic. A friend (and fellow member of this forum) is coming through town...

There are a couple places where you might enter. Either have the Uber drop you at Northeast corner of Jackson/Canal, then use the handicapped entrance and elevator (see photos in post #179) or use the entrance on the east side of Canal St. (See post #181) and elevator. In either case, you'll...

The "interior corridor" you reference is, actually, the outdoor walkway on Canal alongside the Great Hall. (Though there is also a door from the lounge pictured inside the Great Hall by the Grand Staircase in another photo.) I don't believe that the lounge has any picture windows facing...

I believe this is what you're thinking of, on Canal: This way to Jackson The entrance/exit to the Great Hall via the Grand staircase is also open. The second level of the Metropolitan Lounge from the Grand staircase The Jackson facing entrance/exit as seen from the Great Hall

The entrance/exit on Jackson for the Great Hall to which you've pointed is open and available. I, along with others, used it just last week. However, to my knowledge, it does not directly connect to the Metropolitan Lounge.
