St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago Corridor service H2 2024

Typically the inbound trains were full by the time they reached the Chicago city limits, which is Evanston. Historically there were only three stops within the City, now 4 (unless I'm forgetting some). Part of the reasoning for extending Metra to Milwaukee was for commuting within Wisconsin as...

Eastbound Grade Question - CZ Through Rockies

That's partially because it follows a "water level route," that being the route of the Grand River (oh, I mean Colorado River) from Grand Junction up through the mountains to Granby.

    North Portal bridge railfan alert

That really is a lovely shot (kudos to the author).

Sean Duffy nominated for Transportation Secretary

On another board I follow, they were joking that he was kill off sedans with his family size. We're in for interesting times ahead.

Or just get Metra to run to Milwaukee. They are going to be handling the Rockford service in the future (of course, one would have to get some buy in from various counties in Wisconsin .

Hi-Level Sleeper - The Car that Never Was

Weren't the Hi-Level cars slightly lower than the superliners? Like about 8" lower? That's enough to not allow a full height bedroom. It looks like the upper level is only four risers above the hallway, which would be about 24"+/- (probably plus, depending on how high they went with the risers...

    Grand Central Sanderson Station

My guess is the closing of the local college had a big effect on ridership.

Winter Park (Colorado) Express is back

We did that too, or if my mom came took the train and took the bus (did that to Steamboat too), or had my dad's buddy drive us up.

Illinois Central Commuter crash - 52 years ago

My dad talked about this a lot. One quibble with the Wikipedia article; Michael Reese did not move, it closed and was subsequently torn down.

California provides 310M to support Amtrak & regional rail upgrades

That PDF was an interesting read (well, skim anyways) - lots of transit project approved benefitting mobility.

MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) discussion

That's what I did - I discovered that last time I (well, time before last) was in Boston - had to rent a car for work portion of trip and then had time to go into town. Nice walk. I gather it's also easy to Maverick. I see that walkway - doesn't look very pleasant.

MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) discussion

There's a reason I take the blue line to/from Logan.... Dumb question, but can you actually walk to the station? I.e. is there a pathway to the rental car center (which is walkable to two blue line stations)?

    Public transport to Airports

I kind of wondered that too, especially since the airport is WAY out of town. It looks like end of the existing route only goes to Union Station (see link to map below). https://kcstreetcar.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/KC-Streetcar_MSE_RFE_ExtensionAlignments-v2.pdf

    Michigan North-South Rail Passenger Project

To add to the historic info: I've met people who took the train up to ski (don't know specifically where, just "Wisconsin" - there are a lot of places within the state that it could have been).

    Michigan North-South Rail Passenger Project

Not to be pedantic (heh heh) but Amtrak already serves the UP, just not via rail.

    Michigan North-South Rail Passenger Project

I have to wonder that as well - linking the largest metropolitan area in the state to the state capital (third largest metro area) and second largest metropolitan area and potentially on to the largest city in the region seems to be a major ridership builder.
