    Does Amtrak overbook?

The BidUp system is not perfect either. There was a time where I bid up to business class on a Northeast Regional (on the night owl), and got it, and was assigned a seat. When the conductor scanned my ticket, it said I was not in Business Class. I let the conductor poke around on the app on my...

    Does Amtrak overbook?

Amtrak will overbook the Northeast Regional. Unreserved trains can also end up in an overbooking situation due to the tickets being open to be used on any train.

First MARTA CQ400 Stadler Metro train

The cost per unit depends on the timeframe for the options contract. If the options contract is for a short term (ie they want to exercise the options while the delivery of the initial order is ongoing) then the options will have a similar cost per unit. If the options contract is for a longer...

First MARTA CQ400 Stadler Metro train

Wow, finally! When I swung by a couple months ago, those were all still under tarps on the side of the building!

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2024)

The Dash 8-32BWH locomotives also have the 26L airbrakes, and are sometimes used as a subsitution (if available) for a P40 if it gets taken out of service.

    Wash Racks and dirty equipment

As someone who's personally seen the Downeaster get run through the wash rack at BET, I can confirm that this particular wash rack is not that powerful! wet = reflective ≠ clean!

The great discussion of seat orientation in trains and planes

Even on some mid-size turboprops like the ATR-42/72 the first row is often backward facing. On the small business-sized turboprop, the Pilatus PC-12, which is operated by Boutique Air in scheduled service, the two seats in the first row also face backward.

The great discussion of seat orientation in trains and planes

I think the other reason why they want people to get used to the half-facing-backwards seats is so that when new equipment arrive, such as the Airos, they can install non-flipping seats closer together, to fit more seats onto the cars, and at that point, passsengers would all be used to the...

New member with trip planning questions

I will echo the minimum of one night connection. Two if you actually want to guarantee that you get some rest between the train you just got off of, and whatever your connecting mode of transportation is. If everything runs on time, then you have a day or two to spend resting up or exploring...

    Wash Racks and dirty equipment

The Downeaster uses the MBTA's wash rack at Boston Engine Terminal. But, it's essentially a drive-through car wash with pressure nozzles. It's not getting anything off that requires scrubbing.

    Amtrak Police

In addition, the officers are able/allowed to take their cruiser home. There is a neighbor in my neighborhood who is an Amtrak Police officer and his cruiser is parked at his house overnight.

    Tipping on Amtrak

Have times changed? I took the Acela in First today from Boston to New York. I noticed that the five people who got off the train ahead of me didn't tip at all. I tipped the first class service attendant $10 as I thought was customary, and he seemed grateful for it.

    Northeast Regional discussion 2022-2024 H1

Not only this, but they still do flip these seats because it's a single lever and does not require tools. It's so easy that a passenger could (but probably shouldn't) do it.

    Amtrak's customer facing IT issue

They should just bring it back. When people see the train is almost full, it's an incentive to book immediately.

    Sleeper accommodation discussion

Having never traveled in a sleeper before, but looking to do so in the near future, I have a question about the roomette. Is changing the seat to bed mode and back something that I am allowed to or can do myself, or do I need to ask the attendant every time? I feel like I would spend a lot of...

Pittsburgh Amtrak Station past, present and future

This was caused by Greyhound's previous owner (FirstGroup) selling the company to the current owner (Flixbus), but without the real estate holdings which were held by a separate company/subsidiary on paper. Flixbus was (and in many cases still is) paying rent to use the stations that are left...

    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges

Is Metropolitan Lounge access allowed for Acela First Class tickets on arrival? I have a train booked next month and I will be arriving about a couple hours earlier than where I need to be, and was wondering if I can get into the lounge on my ticket to have a nice place to sit and get some work...

    Amtrak Price Tracking Tool

Outside of an API or web scrape, another approach that I would suggest (if current options fail) is to see if you can find an old school travel agent with access to the airline Global Distribution System Sabre and potentially hook into that. Sabre has a native interface with Amtrak's ARROW. The...

Model train store in Massachusetts says it's the largest in America

This one is also the retail arm of G gauge manufacturer USA Trains, so they don't have to turn a huge retail profit to stay in business as they are also a service center.

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2023 Q4

Thank you! I was looking for a baggage policy page, and/or the baggage terms on the booking page and didn't find them. They need to make this information easier to find! Looks like I might have to lug my bag onto SunRail then!
