    Rockies climb throttle position question

Thanks. I am on his site now reading that. I thought "Tales from The Krug" was gone. I still have his HP/TE article. Great stull!

    Rockies climb throttle position question

They seems to always climb out of the cab at that location as it is the only real stop between Denver and Glenwood Springs. I've talked to them before.

    Rockies climb throttle position question

Update: I asked the engineer up in Fraser, CO, and he said that he uses notches 5 and 6, although he pays the most attention to amps. He said he runs at around 400A.

Eastbound Grade Question - CZ Through Rockies

Thanks, all. There is a lot of good stuff here - love that drawing. Going through Glenwood Canyon and father east we're following the river, but it feels like we're on somewhat flat land. I know that can't be the case. I get the feeling the units were working hard to get the train up to the...

Eastbound Grade Question - CZ Through Rockies

Climbing out of Denver it's easy to see and feel the steep climb into the foothills. But leaving Glenwood Springs and heading to Denver it's a different story. It's not nearly as dramatic. It seems that it's a more gradual climb. Does anyone know where the steepest EB grade is on that route...

The Glenwood Springs, CO trip to Denver is now slower!

I used to book a sleeper for the Denver-Glenwood Spring trip and always thought it was really slow. The train used to leave GSC at around 12:20 PM and roll into Denver by around 5:45 or so. Now it leaves there at 11:42 AM and arrives at 6:27 PM, roughly 6 hours and 45 minutes. Wow. You can...

I hope they charged the milk truck driver.

    California Zephyr discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024 H1

Not related, but does anyone have an idea of the throttle position of the lead locomotive at 80 MPH on relatively flat land?

Thanks for your responses. I should have mentioned that the car was in the middle of the consist, and I was on the upper level.

    California Zephyr discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024 H1

This is my second round trip in a sleeper car. Just got back from Chicago today. The ride there was bumpy. Sleeping was almost impossible from Fort Morgan to Lincoln. Coming back last night? Yowsah! That was the worst. I talked to the conductor this morning and even he had a tough time...

Amtrak trains vs pedestrians or motor vehicles; accidents/fatalities

It's hard to believe how this stuff keeps happening, but a milk truck and a the CZ collided here in Colorado on the eastern plains. No one was seriously injured. I was going to be heading to Glenwood Springs today. Amtrak wanted to give a voucher. No thanks! They are holding trains in...

I see. Amtrak makes it so difficult.

Good point. I hadn't thought of that. I'll check some other cities.

    Fare Buckets discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Denver to Glenwood Springs wildly expensive Roomette For several years I have been booking a roomette to GSC. (Yes, I know it's a waste of money). Last month I paid $267 each way. Now, no matter what date I check, it's $518 each way, I have never seen that before - the prices always varied...

    Amtrak delays

Incorrect. I paid for that lunch. Do you think Amtrak gives food away for free? A 12:10 PM boarding time means that the passenger is on time for lunch. An attendant told me on the way up that two meals were included on the return trip.

    Amtrak delays

I did the Denver-Glenwood Springs roomette ride the other day. In the morning I checked and the app said the 12:10 PM train was delayed by an hour and 45 minutes. (That's "on time" by Amtrak standards, right)? I could live with this, but I knew that the delay would only increase. As I checked...

The effect of the potential rail strike on Amtrak

So they always finish runs when there is a strike? That would make sense. The CZ stopping in McCook, NE and telling everyone to get out and then tying down the train wouldn't make sense.

The effect of the potential rail strike on Amtrak

Thanks, everyone. They are now saying that walkouts could start as early as 12/5.

The effect of the potential rail strike on Amtrak

Thanks for the info. I will be on the C.Z. going from Denver to Glenwood Springs and back. Could be a close shave.

The effect of the potential rail strike on Amtrak

I hope there isn't a strike for all the important reasons. On a far lesser note, I have a roundtrip coming up from December 5th through the 6th. I have heard that any strike would start on the 9th or so. If it's going to happen, any thoughts if Amtrak would start canceling routes ahead of...
