St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago Corridor service H2 2024

The Wisconsin legislature flipped pretty significantly towards the Dems this past election. Republicans still have an edge in both chambers but the gap is much smaller now. A Trump 26 midterm also means Wisconsin Democrats have a better chance of seizing both chambers.

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago Corridor service H2 2024

That doesn’t solve any issues because WisDOT wants more than just more Chicago-Milwaukee service, they want to extend those trains to other parts of the state like Green Bay, Madison, and Eau Claire.

Is Chicago transit ready for the DNC?

A positive is that CTA bus operator head count is currently above 2019 levels

    Amtrak Siemens Charger Locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2H 2024 - 2025)

Long distance Chargers are finding their ways onto state supported trains now. This is the second time an ALC has been on the Borealis.

CTA is short close to 100 train operators from 2019.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2024-2025)

The cab cars are only for the Hiawatha, they’re set to be delivered in late 2025-26 after WisDOTs separate order of Venture cars.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2024-2025)

It’s probably nonsense, SC44s are used daily to pull the Illinois Zephyr and Carl Sandburg, trains that run exclusively on BNSF track.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2024-2025)

So at what point in the re-design were the cafe table seats removed? Original promotional images had tables with seating on the opposite end of the car.

    Midwest Venture discussion 2023 Q3 -2024

Cafe cars officially went into service Friday, June 14. Yes, business class cars have been used as regular coach class since early 2023.

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

Corridor ID routes currently running with previous planning studies are several years ahead of new builds or even extensions. WisDOT hired enough consultants to enable them to study all their proposed routes at the same time versus separately. We’ll definitely have a clearer picture of...

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

The yard bypass and airport station should be done by 2027, possibly earlier. Yes it will require more Hiawathas but more are planned anyway. Rolling stock should be available from the Cascades once the Airos go into service too.

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

No one is claiming the second frequency would start soon but Amtrak already has the ability to add a second train to the corridor once the projects around La Crosse are finished.

    Backing into Chicago Union Station

Along with where the new bridge over Clark St will be. Speed for passenger trains will be approximately 30 mph due to straightening of the line.

    Backing into Chicago Union Station

That section of the air line was taken out of service to allow construction of the new Wells/Wentworth connector. Sometime during construction a contractor damaged an underground bridge cable. It likely won’t be put into service at a bare minimum until Metra completes its rebuild of the 16th St...

    Amtrak Management issues

According to the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission Amtrak is the one applying for CRISI grants for locomotive rehabs. Perhaps the states are asking Amtrak to do it for them or Amtrak is taking the initiative, either way it’s clear they aren’t sitting idle.

That also doesn’t happen often, even with the corridor equipment.

    Amtrak Management issues

That’s the only point I’m trying to make, things are improving.

    Amtrak Management issues

Foamers hate the Siemens trains, they would prefer an ancient set of Budd cars hauled by an E unit or F40.
