New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

The first Floridian 41 leaves Chicago tonight, I believe. Interesting that they’re doing it this way. So what happens to the Superliner consist that came in on the 30 today?

New train (40-41 Floridian) between Miami and Chicago via Washington DC

I booked a ticket on the last 29, we’re supposed to leave in a few minutes from WAS. But it says it’s delayed. The Amtrak staff member is saying we’re waiting on the 92, which will become the 29. I’m confused, did they start the “through-running” early? I thought today was going to be the last...

Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2Q 2024)

I’m on train 2150 northbound right now. Just south of Kingston, RI, an Avelia passed us traveling southbound at high speed. Luckily I got a video of it, the only number I can make out is the back power car number, 2124. Assuming they’re doing tests on the “high speed” section?

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

As a Dutch person myself, I am already quite selective about the American cheeses I choose to consume. But my previous home and my current home in the US are united in a love for all things deep-fried, so I am always happy to partake in enjoying such local delicacies.

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

https://youtu.be/5ddHn0FTKR4?si=V6oy1RrtZu25QJjp Attached you will find a video report of my trip on the Borealis, but I’ll share some notes here as well. I took the 1333 on Thursday, the 24th. I was happy to see how busy it was. A lot of my fellow passengers were pretty chatty, so I...

    Metroliner 9800 in DC

I’m confused, weren’t the Metroliners repurposed specifically to lead as cab cars?

    Metroliner 9800 in DC

Today I was surprised to see First Class Conference Car 9800 in Washington, DC. It was leading several Amfleet cars and being pushed by an ACS-64. I’m curious if anybody knows what it was doing out today?

Thanks Chad! This one definitely taught me the virtue of patience (as railfanning tends to do). But it was so worth it.

    New Phase VII P42: #174

It has been running on several of the Virginia state services the past week. Here’s a pic I took this morning when it was leading the 86 from Richmond to Boston. And here’s the video:

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Having ridden the Midwest ones many times I guess I’m confused by the comment on the “tiny” seats. Yeah they’re a little narrower, but it seemed like an exaggerated complaint. Especially to then say wheelchair users should be restricted to the hypothetical cafe area only… I don’t know, maybe as...

It’s currently sitting in the Ivy City yard, as of a few minutes ago. Looks very good!

    New Phase VII P42: #174

Does this mean it is likely to lead the Capitol Limited back to Chicago tomorrow? I’m not quite up to speed yet when it comes to turning trains around in DC.

    Japan Rail around New Years?

The Shinkansen between Tokyo and Kyoto always have non-reserved seats as well. If you’re in Japan, you can use the ticket vending machines to see whether your specific train still has reservations available. Do be advised that New Years is one of the most important holidays in Japan and a lot...

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

That last sentence is not true. There are many standard-gauge subways in Japan, including the Asakusa Line and the Oedo Line. Many other lines use third rail power as well, including in nearby Yokohama and the majority of the system in Osaka. On the subject of Brightline, I am traveling down...
