Bi-level Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion H2 2024

Unless they extended the deadline for the third or fourth time, bids should be in.

Bi-level Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion H2 2024

I'm convinced that even when new bilevel rolling stock is rolling around the country there will still be a significant amount of bellyaching about how single-level would have been better. The RFP concepts are good cars, my only complaint is the elimination of the SSL for coach passengers.

Utah's big 2034 Winter Olympics transit expansion

Park City is considering Light Rail for transit expansion.

Utah's big 2034 Winter Olympics transit expansion

Lots of dirt moving and machinery at work for the Stadler Factory expansion. This project will double the working space at the facility and likely be immediately followed by another large expansion. Note the fresh carshells in the middle of it all, they will be built into new metro trainsets for...

Bi-level Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion H2 2024

The deadline was pushed back again to December 15 and they won't tell me who submitted bids.

Bi-level Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion H2 2024

Bids are due today. Interested to see how long it takes to get an order on the books.

Bi-level Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion H2 2024

I personally think it'll come down to Alstom and Stadler, assuming an order is placed at all. Alstom is the most prepared in terms of facilities and staff. Alstom has everything they need from the facilities to build the steel carshells to the staff who know how to build the interior. Alstom...

VIA Rail Long Distance (LD) and Inter-Regional fleet replacement

When are bids due to VIA for their LD Fleet replacement? Will they require them to be built in North America?

Bi-level Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion H2 2024

I had a great discussion with Mike Christensen of URPA about it recently. The hope is that us in states with politically moderate congressional delegations can convince our federal delegates to preserve funding for LD projects based on the economic return in rural areas. Support for LD is...

Bi-level Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion H2 2024

For a lack of answer here I reached out and asked. The close date is 11/29. I wish they could get an award out by late January for obvious reasons, unfortunately that seems unlikely. I fear this whole procurement is in peril.

I may have missed news, has it been decided if 300 will be repaired?

Bi-level Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion H2 2024

I heard a few times that bids were due in "Early November", do you know when specifically that might be?

First pictures of Stadler CityLink light rail vehicles to replace all high-floor units in use on the TRAX Light Rail Network.

    Colorado planning

A new advocacy group: the Western Rail Coalition is pushing for an aggressive expansion of passenger rail in Colorado: They have already published a letter asking the Governor to consider rail through Eagle County. A member has made a nice video explaining the idea:

    Salt Lake City Station discussion

Presently the focus is on getting support from elected officials. Salt Lake City's Reconnecting Communities study will be kicking off early next year, presently the Rio Grande Plan is the only proposed means to address this divide and as such we believe the study will find that it is the ideal...

Bi-level Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion H2 2024

Well I'm back on the Stadler hope train. They just won UTA's LRV replacement with a steel designed vehicle meaning they plan to have steel car capacity in the US. I know well they are bidding, but solid plans for their expanded factory will help their bid quite a bit.

    SEPTA Silverliner VI

Well I got tired of waiting and asked, SEPTA has not yet issued an RFP for the Silverliner VI. They state that they are actively working on one though.

Utah's big 2034 Winter Olympics transit expansion

UTA has selected Stadler to supply Low-Floor light rail vehicles which will replace their high-floor SD100 and SD160 vehicles. Apologies, here is the correct link.

Utah's big 2034 Winter Olympics transit expansion

Fixed transit of some sort. UTA had decided to use BRT right before the state pretty much took away their planning abilities, so UDOT may pivot back to rail if we are lucky. It is definitely a ways out, likely post-Olympics, but still very much included in regional plans.
