Dreamstar overnight train between San Francisco and Los Angeles?

We'll find out when more details come out. Regardless of what they've selected, it'll require some sort of complete rebuild in order to convert the cars into what they're advertising. Something that needs to be reaffirmed. They're planning on using the trainsets at night, not everyday...

Dreamstar overnight train between San Francisco and Los Angeles?

According to this article here, the equipment they're using will be refurbished bi-level equipment. Whether that means the former ATSF Hi-level cars that Amtrak used I'm not sure, they could also be retired commuter coaches from elsewhere. It's not made clear...

    Brightline Trains West!

It's been outlined as to why the Avelias had issues on the NEC, but I'll leave that for another thread. I'm happy that Brightline West will be bringing the Velaros to the US. They will get 10 sets, two of which will be manufactured in Germany. The remaining 8 will be manufactured in the US in a...

    Brightline Trains West!

Every rolling stock manufacturer has gotten orders that weren't their best work. People were even calling for Siemens' contract with Amtrak to be cancelled, because of the issues the ALC-42s had. It's a new product, give it a chance.

    Brightline Trains West!

Siemens wasn't a surprise as Brightline already has a well established relationship with them. However, I hope it's not the end of Alstom being able to build high speed trainsets in the future for the US.

    Texas High Speed Rail

Over in Taiwan, the 700Ts which are derived from the 700 series Shinkansens. They were modified to have additional safety features, since Taiwan High Speed Rail or THSR adapted European safety systems and requirements. Amtrak might end up doing that.

MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) discussion

Going Green and Decarbonized is the trendy corporate verbiage for the decade lol. I can only imagine what it'll be in the next decade.

MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) discussion

From the MBTA board meeting on the 25th, which you can read the details from this link. This got a lot of attention. https://www.mbta.com/events/2024-04-25/board-meeting-mbta-board-directors

Length of train and sleeper car numbers

Looking on Youtube, these consists from the 1980s can give you an idea. Crescent seemed to have used heritage cars for the entire consist, instead of having a couple Amfleet IIs in there.

    SEPTA cancels contract with CRRC

What a mess this has turned into, as for options. It was back in February that Kawasaki delivered a pair of M8s for Metro North, which were the last ones to be delivered for Metro North. So you can't rule Kawasaki out. Alstom has its Adessia and Coradia family trains. It's really up to Septa to...

Railjet newest trainset early release for crush holiday service.

That's the third generation. 2026 I think is when they'll go into service. 14 6 car trainsets.

Railjet newest trainset early release for crush holiday service.

These Railjets are looking cool, can't wait to see what the third generation of Railjets will be like in a few years.

Well it looks like this is for real, as it was posted on Siemens' newsroom.

VIA Rail Long Distance (LD) and Inter-Regional fleet replacement

If they're serious about that 2035 deadline, well fans better start making plans to ride those cars. Either the Canadian government will fund replacements or they won't. All I can say is, they should've bought replacements back in the 1980s when they had the chance.

Hyundai Rotem wins subway car order for LA Metro

In fairness, they were new to the US when they bidded on those contracts, so I'd assume their quality has improved since then. Also, IIRC the issues with the Silverliner Vs was more of a truck/bogie issue. I'm not sure if Rotem built those bogies themselves, as I've heard those trucks were...

Hyundai Rotem wins subway car order for LA Metro

Well looks like Hyundai Rotem wins a contract to build subway cars for LA Metro. 182 cars are being built and are to be delivered in time for the Olympics in 2028. https://www.railjournal.com/passenger/metros/hyundai-rotem-wins-us-664m-order-for-la-metro-trains/

    SEPTA Silverliner VI

Since Rotem is out, it would be interesting to see who gets the order. Siemens has the Mireo, Alstom has the Coradia, Stadler has the FLIRT, and CAF has the Civity to give some background on what's available on the market.

Here from Siemens is an explanation on how ERTMS works. It's in Dutch, but there are English subtitles embedded in the video.

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

Being in the community for a while and seeing what I've seen, railfans along with human resources apparently have more power then the entire federal government lol. I've watched videos of the new Acelas testing and I'm impressed by the train itself, but also in the back of mind I'm going, how...
