What an interesting video, Tom.

There is a lot I could comment on, but what I found to be the most impressive was watching ties being made by hand! The skills shown with an ax are pretty amazing. All for about 80 cents a day in wages!

Thanks for sharing! :hi:

According to the BLS eighty cents back then would be worth something on the order of $9.32 today. Must have been a hard life.

 Great Video Tom! My Grandfather started out on the SP as a Section Foreman and I remember as a Boy watching the Section Gangs do everything by hand when working on the Tracks in West Texas! IIRC they were making about $200 a Month and Free Railroad Housing by that Time! , Back in the 30s during the Depression they worked for a Dollar a Day! Tough Life indeed! ;)

Fascinating.....so called "unskilled labor" really is a misnomer.....those guys definitely had to have more than just muscle to perform their occupations....

Thanks for providing the link! :)
