I took one of my first train rides out to the Greenbrier back in the 1990s. If my memory serves me right, I would have been on the Colonial that derailed at Bell King Road in April, 1992.
What I'd like a hand on is sorting out who would have done that excursion and what cars would have/might have been involved. I'm pretty sure we went coach (or the equivalent...I don't think that domes were involved, at least, though I might be able to find evidence to the contrary in the family photo album(s) if I ever manage to pull them out), but for some reason the one foggy memory I have is of a vestibule and a bit of hallway in chilly weather in Clifton Forge (which doesn't quite line up with the records, so I may be conflating trips/memories).
What strikes me in particular, though, is that my memory of the hallway next to the vestibule feels more like the hall of a sleeping car (the hallway going along one side of the car rather than down the middle)...so any help here? It is quite possible, I suspect, that the excursion went from Richmond and then hooked onto the Cardinal and that's where some of this is coming from...anyhow, any help would be appreciated here.
