India has been hit with three train incidents in less than 24 hours, and these have resulted in a total of at least seven people being killed and over 35 injured. The first tragedy happened on Tuesday with the Howrah-Dehradun Express catching fire in Jharkhand. The other two happened early on Wednesday – a train derailment in Anantnag, Kashmir and a two-train collision in Odisha.
In the Jharkhand train fire on Tuesday, seven people were confirmed dead – including two children and one Australian – and more than 12 injured after the B1 and B2 coaches caught fire at full occupancy. Dhanbad and Giridih firefighters reported to the scene and spend five hours extinguishing the blaze, which burned the coaches beyond recognition.
