I made 2 Double point Run Trips this week from AUS-TAY-AUS, and while the bar-B-Q was great as usual a Couple of out of the Ordinary things happened on the Two Trips.!

On the Tuesday 4/23 Trip my GF and I met up with the 2 Joes (and Joe G's Potential Next Ex-Wife as Joe H. says! :giggle: )in the Lounge Upon Boarding in Taylor who were on the way to San Antonio for Fiesta on Another of their Eat and Drink Your Way Across America Adventures via Amtrak!

On Thursday 4/25, #22 Rolled into Austin 30 Minutes Early led by a BNSF Freight Engine! Seems that the Amtrak Engine had blown out a Compressor on the way to SAS the Night before resulting in a Rescue @ Cleburne by BNSF! There was a Freight Engineer that got on in Austin (an Engineer Change Point)who told the Conductor and me that he would take the Train to Marshall (another T&E Crew Change Spot)in East Texas! Also the LSA in the Diner Overslept in SAS and had to take a Cab from SAS-SMC (only stop between SAS and AUS), a heavy hit of $100 for Cab Fare!!

We got into TAY 20 minutes Early, Longest Dwell Time (after a 30 Minute Dwell in Austin where 50+ Boarded)) I've seen on this Route! And 12 People Boarded in Taylor! (but Everyone Knows Nobody Rides Trains anymore! <_< )

After a Nice Day in Beautiful Taylor :giggle: , the Eagle arrived 30 Minutes Late (Julie had it right for Once!!)and I met AU Member White Rabbit in the Lounge! He showed me his Sleeper which was a Rehabbed I, looked Brand New! Looks like Amtrak is finally giving the Orphan Eagle Good Equipment, all we need is 2 Engines on this Route and we'll be in the Big Time! Upon Arrival in Austin I gave White Rabbit (an old Austinite) a ride to his Hotel and only charged him $10 for Gas! (Something I learned from the_traveler! :giggle: ) NOT!!!

Just another Couple of Trips as on as The Eagle Rolls! ;)

Sounds like a nice trip (if perhaps a bit tamer than the one time that a guy dressed as a conductor got on and started taking tickets).

Edit: What's the "Orphan Eagle"?

How did they run the Diner without an LSA?
Considering that Some of them do Nothing but Sit in Diner while the Server(s) and Cook(s) do all the Work, it probably went well! :giggle:

I guess No-one from Coach was allowed to Eat Breakfast till San Marcos (Austin is Last call when the Eagle is On-Time) since they couldn't pay for their Meal without an LSA! There is also the Possibility that the LSA in the Cafe could have Temporarily filled in but since it's such a Short Trip from SAS-SMC probably not!
