A second attempt at riding 6 from Emy to Chi. Departing 2/19/22

It's Friday morning and I am sitting in class. As is my usual routine when I am catching 6 EB on a Saturday morning I track the progress of 5 as it departs Chicago on Wednesday and makes its way west. It was doing ok yesterday, but today it is 3 hours plus late out of Elko as I am sitting here in 1st period English. 5 and 6 have been negotiating Donner pass reliably for the past week or so of checking, so I am not too worried. Though I will keep the ASM tab open on my laptop to do multiple checks of 5's progress west.

Tonight after school I will have dinner, and then get a ride to Ohare and meet with Mike who is flying in from Cleveland. Our flight to San Francisco leaves at 8 p.m.

5 spent all of my 4th-period prep sitting southeast of Winnemucca. If it were to start moving now it would be 5 hours 17 minutes late into Winnemucca. ASM is predicting 4 hours late into EMy.

It spent most of 5th period sitting too. It’s now over 6 hours late between Reno and Truckee.

I’m at Ohare. Security theater was in full force. No tsa pre check. A dog was being used to sniff bags. Everything checked thoroughly. A lady’s shoe fell out of the bin. TSA guy sent it through again.

Mikes flight is late. We will be hustling to catch the flight to sfo. That will probably be late too. The inbound aircraft lands at 7:14. The united app optimistically predicts boarding will start at 7:24.

We made it SFO about 1 hour late. 5 arrived at 10:55, 15 minutes before a flight landed. We took an Lyft and were In our hotel rooms by 12:10. Not bad.

We are sat the station. The ticket agent believes we will leave on time. As of 8:20 he did not have any notices about delays. He was aware of the late arrival of 5.

We made it over Donner Pass. Now I’m hearing there’s a freight derailment near wendover. This caused a bustitution on 5/6 last night causing hours delays for both trains.

The train that I am currently on made it through to SLC. We left Salt Lake City about 1:45 late. This can be made up.

An enjoyable morning aboard the Zephyr. Departing Grand Junction 1:20 late. Padding in the schedule eroded a close to 2 hour delay.

Backing into Denver. A 20 minute wait before the back up move. Spectacular ride down the front range.

We left Denver 1 hour late. Lost 40 minutes on the way to Fort Morgan. I was sleeping so I assumed this was freight traffic. Currently running about 1 hour late.

The crew on this trip have been professional and efficient the entire trip. They had a short night in EMY. They are handling that well.

We arrived Chicago 11 minutes late. Excellent job by UP and BNSF.
