Whatever siding I'm sitting on!
I know that you can not redeem for a sleeper online or a reservation in coach that involves a connection, but I discovered that you CAN redeem for a Business Class ticket (for a direct train) online! And better yet, it shows up on amtrak.com listed under "your reservations"! :D

I just made a PDX-SEA redemption for BC online, and it's listed on my reservations! :)

Oh yeah, you've been able to do that for a while!

For example, that's how I got my tickets for the SAN trip in the 2008 gathering.

You can also redeem for Acela FC online...that's how I got my BOS-WAS ticket for escaping after the 2009 gathering.

That's not to say one's always been able to, but I was able to as long ago as early October.

One note: carefully watch how much they deduct...in one case I booked BC on the Surfliner; as a special route, it should have been 1500 points, but it was the 6500-point 1-zone business that was deducted.

Fortunately, this was back when AGR still cared, so they corrected it quickly during my call, putting back the extra 5000 points (read: putting back all 6500, then deducting 1500).
