I believe I read before (but because of Mom Memory can't remember) but do you "pay" less points when you have the CC? I am looking at booking a roomette and I am 1000 points away from the 20000 needed, so without having to buy any I was just wondering if I had enough with the supposed discount. Thanks in advance.

Close but not quite. It's a rebate. So you still need the full point minimum to get the process started. They take out the full amount and then credit you back 5% of the total. Or at least that's how it looks to me. I'm always over the minimum before I ticket so I can't really speak from experience on this.

If it is any consolation, the points are immediately rebated after the reservation, not after the travel has occurred.

Yup, that's how it works for me: they deduct the full amount, and then "rebate." Go figure why they have to do it that way. I guess it's to keep you on the hook, trying to earn your next trip!
It's the same as going to the store to purchase a $100 item. It has a $15 rebate, but do you pay the store $100 or $85? (Unless it is an "instant rebate", you pay $100 to the store.)

You pay AGR 15,000, 20,000 or how many points you need. The "rebate" actually comes from Chase. So you must pay all the points first.
