I was just comparing two reservations I have. One purchased and one AGR (we need two roomettes).

The purchased ticket reservation says "Subject To Cancellation Unless Ticketed By June 25, 2009"

The AGR reservation in the same place says "Subject To Cancellation Unless Purchased By June 25, 2009"

I know it is probably nothing to worry about, but is it? I mean, I am not going to purchase it. Unless it is referring to AGR purchasing that ticket when I pick it up.

I noticed that my AGR reward itineraries say the same thing, "unless purchased by..." I just picked up the tickets on that date (it's the date of the first travel, isn't it?), and there was no problem. Just another example of the Amtrak ticketing program not knowing quite what to do with AGR, I think.

Just looking at my reservations for my upcoming trip, I don't see those words on either type of reservation. (My trip includes both AGR awards and paid segments.)

All segments are set up so they can be picked up as I travel along (where possible - I have to pick up the LAX-CHI-WAS-ATL award segments all in LAX). If you made the paid segments online, you PAY (or PURCHASE) them at that time. So the "Purchase by June 26" statement doesn't make sense - you purchased them on April 12! :rolleyes:

Yes, first day of travel. Good to know you had the same thing and no problems. Thanks for the reply!

Only the AGR reservation says Purchased by (third line of text from the Amtrak e-mail confirmation). The purchased tickets say Ticketed by.

Looking at my reservations for an upcoming trip, I find that the e-mails for the purchased segments say:

Thank you for choosing Amtrak. Save or print this page for your records.

Reservation Number: xxxxx

Amtrak Guest Rewards Number: xxxxxxx

THIS IS NOT A TICKET. You must obtain your ticket(s) before boarding any train; this confirmation will not be accepted onboard.

At the end of the e-mail is the price, and the credit card number (x-ed out except for the last four digits) used to pay for it.

The e-mails (sent by a kind Amtrak clerk) for AGR reward segments say:

THIS IS NOT A TICKET

==========================================================================

Reservation Number Is xxxxx

Subject To Cancellation Unless Purchased By December 1, 2009

==========================================================================

At the end of AGR rewards e-mails there is a price as well:

Charges:

Total Reservation Charges: $ 1492.00

Ticket Delivery Charge: $ 0.00

-------------------------------------------

Total Charges: $ 1492.00

Which works out to almost 7.5 cents a point in this case.

This makes no sense, since I'm not paying anything, but I figure it must be a result of shoehorning AGR into the Amtrak reservation system. In any case, I wouldn't worry about it, Printman, and instead would focus on more pressing matters, like what the dinner special is going to be. (My advice: take the crab cakes if they offer them.)

I also like to track the number of cents/point but since my habit is to buy early, AGR "charges" me low bucket meaning that it is a low number of cents/point.

DARN I suppose I could "buy" later and "pay" higher bucket but I worry about availability.

Me too! :p

And it also helps if there's 2 people traveling - to increase the value/point. Last year on the EB, there were 2 of us, I got the last room (high bucket of course) and later - and got a value/point of over 12¢! :D Most of my travel is done alone and thus I "only" usually get a value/point of 4-5¢. :(

I'm like you. I tend to plan train trips far ahead of time, and since I usually have to buy some tickets, I usually book the AGR reward travel at the same time. My cut-off is three cents per point, calculated from low-bucket prices. This means that I'd probably never use AGR points for a coach ticket, except for the 1000 point special routes.

That 7.5 cents per point is the best I've done so far. Omaha to St. Paul would be closer to the Traveler's 12 cents per point, but I haven't had a chance to make that trip.
