Thanks for sharing this. Brought back some good memories.

Around 96 or so, as a little kid, I took a trip on the Coast Starlight with my dad. I had long distant recollection of there being movies shown on board, but couldn't find any mention of it elsewhere.

I also remember wine and cheese being served, which as I little kid I thought was about the fanciest thing around. (I had the cheese).

I still have the (long faded) ticket for that trip, and a dark blue embossed folder that was in our roomette with train information in it.

I rode the Capitol Limited in 1989 and the Crescent in 1990. No buffet meals or movie rooms, but the Capitol had a dome car, and we had breakfast on the Capitol in the prototype Viewliner diner. Rode in Amfleet 2 coaches on the Capitol, which I remember were really uncomfortable, and rode a Heritage slumbercoach on the Crescent.

My next long-distance ride was on the Capitol in 1997, and they had Superliners at that point, and they showed movies in the sightseer lounge after dark.

Thanks. Nice emphasis on sleeping cars as being First Class accommodations. Amtrak needs to bring that back (along with Slumbercoach 2.0).
