Trains’ Newswire had a story today on the Amtrak Board Meeting

Mostly positive news, perhaps @jis who attended can update us on his reactions.

Aside from reporting on timeline for new Airo fleet and new Acelas, it was reported that flex dining will be replaced (with what?) and equipment repair status. Many will be interested in this:

“Amtrak President Roger Harris confirmed to News Wire after the session that the Texas Eagle is slated to see its Sightseer Lounge car return in March and a third Viewliner sleeping car will be added to the Chicago-Miami Floridian about the same time.”

It was all party line with not enough detail about anything to do any evaluation.

I have no reason to disbelieve the timelines for Airo and Avelias.

As for dining I think they have finally figured out that as long as they plate and present reasonably well pre-prepared food attractively in an attractive environment, they don;t have to provide the details of where the food came from in what form. How many people eating "traditional" Salmon menu item complain about it not having been prepared on the train other then heated properly using the recommended method by someone who is trained to do it right? Maybe Amtrak is finally catching upto some of the wonders that are presented on board airlines like Singapore and Emirates, even the US3 in theor premium class service and try to emulate that in less cramped environment that they have in their excellent hard product of the Diners that they have.

Yup. That is consistent with what I have known for a while from an independent source, but was not free to share with attribution.
