Granted that Amtrak primarily operates its P42 locomotives on long distance trains and VIA uses its P42s in corridor service, I have never understood why Amtrak has occasional to regular breakdowns of its P42 en route while VIA's P42s seem to operate problem-free. I have assumed that it is a maintenance issue and therefore a management issue that Amtrak seems to have but VIA does not.
