People complain about the age of the Amfleet cars here all the time. But if someone from Amtrak acknowledges that -- in an article noting that the Airos are ordered & a new LD fleet is being planned, so it's not just idle criticism -- it's interpreted as being anti-Amtrak.

I'd like to correct Laura Mason. I was an 80's kid. So, when I heard the name Amtrak, when I saw and rode it, I associated it with bold, innovative futuristic rail travel that will save the passenger train in the U. S. That was the thinking it evoked at the time. Yes, there were some bumps. 1984 was a bad luck year that saw at least 5 big derailment and one head on in the New York City borough of Queens. But the trains were new and powerful, and didn't take sh** from no snowstorms. The people who ran the whole thing were the same vintage. The railroad moves no matter what, except in true danger. But even with that, detours were found sometimes. It was a powerful dependable entity that got you where you needed, and during delays there was always food on board. I wish we can get that railroad back again.
