Amtrak Winslow AZ station update

Many of you have used the Winslow station that is located behind the LaPosada Hotel (formerly the Harvey House) As lodging is right there its a convenient stop on the Amtrak S.W Chief. The difficultly in recent years at that destination has been the availability of rental cars. That is all about to change. A new company called Flagstaff Rental car now services Winslow, Williams and Grand Canyon (airports included) They are a booking house for car dealership car rentals.. In this case Winslow Ford. You may pay a few bucks more for that rental but if you stay at the LaPosada its a great historic hotel with lodging rates lower than what you will find at Flagstaff.

Good news at first glance. Hopefully some relevant reviews will trickle in when travel season begins. Good to have more options and I can see this working for me if the schedule and pricing are reasonable.

I called the LaPosada Hotel and asked about the new rentals. They say it has been working well and the hotel has been the pickup/drop off point. We will be coming into Winslow on the Amtrak SW Chief in late May and will share our first hand experience. When we booked this trip 11 months ago we had real concerns about getting a rental vehicle in Winslow. The only option at that time was at a pawn shop/used car lot called Dollar Center run by a senior couple. When we called several times no one even bothered to answer the phone. We now feel more comfortable that the new situation will work out

That's incredible! I thought it was a real building until I Googled it.

There was a "rest of the building" at one time in the park that burned down. Not sure if the wall with the mural is the face of that which survived, or was separate.

Have to second the comments about La Posada, but it is unique and a "must see". However, the dining room is missing the famous Santa Fe French Toast.

I too went down a bit of a rabbit hole googling that and ended up on an interesting blog about a west to east route 66 trip...

(and good to know about the rental car situation)
