If anything, Thameslink proves the need for Penn Station South because Thameslink has its own King Cross station alongside the ancient stub end one. There was no BS about widening its platforms by cappng over tracks that would magically increase capacity and whining about political feifdoms. Thameslink also used the abandoned Snow Hill tunnel that hadn't seen a passenger train since WWI nor a freight train since the 1970's. Manhattan does not have the luxury of an abandoned tunnel to repurpose.
