Mrs. VARider and I have booked a roomette on the Cardinal, from CVS to CHI. The roomette does not appear large enough to accommodate the two of us, plus our two suitcases. The Cardinal has no checked baggage, so is there a place in the sleeper car where we can stash our large suitcase?

Thanks for your help.

The rolling suitcase that I normally travel with is 14 inches wide, stands 23 inches tall, and is 7 inches thick. If I had two of those bags, I could just barely fit both of them side by side in the cubbyhole above the hall. The same sized bag can also fit underneath your seats. One bag could be a little wider than mine by maybe an inch or two, the other I’d say could be approximately 5 or 6 inches wider. They could not be much taller or thicker and still fit underneath the seats. There is also room for a shoulder bag next to the larger of the two seats. Your car attendant will try to accommodate larger bags, but it is very difficult for him to do so. He usually has to store them in the shower room, and in the vestibule of the car. This means that he has to keep moving them around as people enter and exit the train at stations, or if someone wants to take a shower.

You can check bags from CVS to CHI. They just won't travel on the same train you are on though. The only catch is they could arrive in Chicago a day late. Unless you get to CVS early enough for the Crescent to WAS. So if you really want to check a bag or two go to the station maybe a day ahead of your trip. It may not be possible for you though. Alan pretty got the rest. There is also some space next to the seat for a bag. That along with the cubie hole on top, should have enough room for smaller 22 inch suitcases.

Thanks for the information; this is very helpful.

I will measure our bags, and see if they might fit. And I will also talk to the folks at the CVS station about the possibility sending one bag ahead via the Crescent and the WAS-CHI train.

The Crescent from CVS to WAS, and then the Capitol Limited from WAS to CHI.
