BART: Off-peak service reductions began Monday, September 14th

On Monday, September 14, BART reduced service during off-peak hours (weekday evenings, weekends and holidays) by running fewer trains and single-route service South of Daly City.

 

BART is working to eliminate an estimated $310 million, four-year deficit amid an ongoing decline in ridership, state transit funding and sales tax revenue. The service reductions were adopted by the BART Board on June 11 as part of the overall budget process for Fiscal Year 2010.

Weekdays after 7:00 pm, weekends and holidays


 

• 20-minute service (instead of 15-minute)
• Single route service south of Daly City:
  - Pittsburg/Bay Point (Yellow) line extended to Millbrae from SFO
  
  - Dublin/Pleasanton (Blue) line stops at Daly City instead of Millbrae
  
  
• Direct service between Millbrae and SFO
• Timed transfers at 12th Street and MacArthur station
• More even spacing of trains throughout the system
• No change to Richmond (Red) or Fremont (Green, Orange) lines

All in all, it seems pretty logical. Transfers are required to more of an extent on similar systems elsewhere.

It wasn't all that long ago, IIRC, that BART crowed about increasing the frequency of service on weekends from once every 20 min to once every 15, except mornings and midday Saturdays. Now, it's back to the 20-min frequency on both Saturdays and Sundays, all day, as well as weekday evenings.
