Often when I ride on BART, I find it almost impossible to hear the train operator's announcements. I think they sometimes say, "Would you like fries with that?"
Today, I did hear one announce the train was coming into Rockridge station. Only problem was, it was approaching Orinda.
Yesterday, however, a woman was operating one of the morning trains and had a voice that was loud, clear, and pleasant; and her announcements were concise. She informed passengers when the train was going to make a brief unscheduled stop to let off BART personnel, as well as when the train would be slowing for construction between Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek.
Do the operators not really care about making clear announcements? Is that a low priority for the transit system? Or is it simply that the PA systems are in poor condition on most cars?
