I noticed checking the site that the 11:20 train out of Penn station seems to be 30 mintus late or so on average into florida. but the 3:15 train seems to be early most of the time. and they almost seem to get there at the same time?

what is the reason for this.. anybody know?

Train 91 operates via Raleigh, and via Tampa, both of which take longer than 97's more direct route.

the 11:20 train the Silver Star makes a dog leg into and out of Tampa, where the Silver Meteor, the 3:15 train, just bypasses Tampa altogether. That's the main reason they're scheduled to leave 4 hours apart, but arrive into Miami fairly close to each other. Also, a friend of mine rode the Star, northbound, a few weeks ago and they were told they'd be slow into and out of Tampa because of track conditions and work. I think they lost about 45 minutes to an hour with that, but it was mostly made up by the time they got north.

I personally prefer the Silver Meteor from Orlando to WAS and take it most of the time. However, recently I took the Silver Star and because it was a "different" train for me, I REALLY enjoyed it, even though most of the scenery was the same - but it was at different times of day and I got to see different parts of NC. From Orlando, to make connections to Chicago, I have to take the Meteor.

When I rode to SS to ORL it was Early into ORL by 2 minutes and 30 minutes early into PHL. :D 30 minutes late isn't that bad for a long haul train. If your talking Acela or NE Regional I'd say other wise.
