Found this rather interesting 45-minute long documentary made by a British TV channel for a series called "Extreme Railways". This episode is called "India's Monsoon Railway" and gives a nice narrative of the challenging Konkan Railway route through difficult terrain of western India, arguably one of the most beautiful section for train travel in India-

A little coincidence, sort of...

Chris Tarrant is also host of UK version of "Who wants to be a millionaire", so a connection to India via Slumdog too!

Ed

I've been wanting to ride the Konkan ever since I knew it existed. Saving dollars. Maybe someday. Really really want to go there.

Thanks TE for link to video.

For those inclined to know about locomotives.... the WDM2s that you see are Alco derivatives. The WDP4s are EMD derivatives. Both manufactured in India under license.
Sorry for nitpicking, but that entire documentary has barely any WDM-2s, all the Alco-like locos seen are WDM-3A or WDM-3D which are both indigenous designs, taking the basic Alco design that was provided for WDM-2 as a base and then applying local changes to it.

Awesome! I've never watched this show before but it looks great. I'll watch it when I have the time. India would be a very interesting country to visit, if only I had the money.
