I'm holding tickets for a trip to Brattleboro, VT next weekend that I canceled by phone. However, I haven't heard anything about my commitment next weekend, so I may get the opportunity to take the trip anyway. Since I still have the physical tickets, is there any way I can un-cancel them? If I book new tickets, the conductor will write me out a paper ticket, and that makes AGR points a real pain.

You cancelled by phone?? Try "uncancelling" by phone - what can you lose?

Did you have a BC seat?

If not, then why did you bother to cancel?

If you did have a BC seat, then I understand the need to cancel. But I'm not sure if you can uncancel it either. There may be a way, I just don't know. Try calling to see what happens, maybe even taking it to customer service instead of a normal agent.

You must mail the tickets to the Amtrak to get it officially cancel to get refund or transfer to other trip ticket as long the ticket has same value or pay the difference. And important thing, get a cancellation number and write it on the ticket so you have a official cancel ticket confirm number.

You cancelled your reservation but still have the dollar value of your hard copy ticket until you surrender or use it. Call and see if the fare basis and space you ticketed are still available and if they are, I think you are set. If they are not, they will tell you what is available. May be more or less expensive on the date of rebooking. If there are any changes in fare or accomodations you will need to exchange your tickets for new ones at the station.

The problem is that there isn't a staffed station or a QT machine anywhere in the state of VT, which is at the root of this problem.

I have a promotional fare, which is a flat $12 anywhere in the state till the end of the year. So that shouldn't change and I know I can turn my ticket in to the conductor for its face value. The problem is that if I do that, I get a handwritten ticket and my AGR points won't post automatically, which then creates a huge hassle for me.

At the moment I'm waiting to see if I'll be free next weekend or not, then I'm going to get the official word from Amtrak and will post an update here...
