I will be getting on at an unmanned station so I know I have to put all my luggage on unchecked, but when I get to San Antonio can I check my bags there all the way to my end stop? That way I won't have to deal with transferring them later. Otherwise when I get to LA I will have to carry suitcases and a carseat to the bus and then have to put them on the SJ all the while helping my two small children.

As long as your final destination offers checked baggage service, sure! If not, why not check them just to LAX or BFD and do nor collect then until train time , or ask for a Red Cap to assist you?

I'm going to Hanford which has checked baggage. The reason I want to check all the way through is the times I've done this trip before the people getting on in Bakersfield are quite pushy getting on the train. I've had them push my children out of the way so they could get on first. I don't want to deal which luggage and my children if I don't have to.
