Has anyone taken the steam-powered trains in central Washington? And if so, is it worth it to book the dinner or is it better as a daytime trip?

Thanks!!

I took this train one time, but that was 16 years ago. I enjoyed the ride. I didn't take the dinner train, but rather the daytime run. I don't remember the price back then, but am sure it's more now. As to whether the dinner train is worth it compared to the daytime ride, I really can't answer that, as you know your financial situation. Were it me, I'd go for it, but then I'm single and would be paying for only myself. The ride itself is pretty. That much I can tell you!

Thanks, JayPea!

The day ride is pretty affordable at $14-16 per person. Dinner is ~$44, so an extra $30. The markup isn't that exorbitant; the dining car on Amtrak would charge $20-25 for a similar meal. I just wish I could see a photo to see if it looks as tasty as Amtrak meals (which I find surprisingly good, considering the limited kitchen!).
