Here's a link to a trip report I made for my recent trip on #5 from CHI to EMY in Coach. There are over 200 pictures. Some of the report deals with the flights as I'm an aviation enthusiast as well, but you can skip over that stuff if you want. :)

ATL-SFO-ATL on Amtrak and Delta

Here's a direct link to two videos I took from the train...I think they came out well...

It was a great ride. Train was mostly full between CHI and DEN (although I had 2 seats to myself the whole time), but it emptied out there. In fact, the last Coach on the train was closed between DEN and RNO.

We ended up 1 hour late into EMY due to holding for our sister train #6 in the Sierra Nevada's.

The crew was excellent and it was just a very relaxing, peaceful, scenic journey. I met a few interesting people on the train, as well.

It snowed constantly between Naperville and Glenwood Springs, making a scenic journey all the more scenic due to the white stuff.

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Loved the pix of Winter Park. Last time we came by the ski area the engineer had to big hole it as skiers were using the right of way since the snow was packed down by passing trains and the snow on the side of the right of way was two or three feet deep. Goes to show how little some people know about RR'ing!

Nice report, pictures and videos. Enjoyed it a nd it brought back memories of our CZ trip some years ago.

Thanks for sharing!

Great report and pictures! I can't wait for my next trip on the CZ this winter! :D

One small correction (maybe) -

As soon as we exited the tunnel, the Winter Park ski area was visible on the immediate left.
IIRC, the ski area is on the RIGHT when you exit the tunnel. But I could be wrong.
