In 1985 I was living in Austin TX (actually in nearby Buda). With an intense work schedule coming up, I decided to take a jaunt by rail as a short vacation:
6/28/85-- Flew to Chicago
6/29-- Lv. on INTERNATIONAL to Toronto. Arrived that evening.
6/30--Lv. Toronto on the NORTHLANDER. Equipment was ex-Swiss/Dutch TEE cars pulled by FP-7 units. Arrived in Porquis, Ontario with bus transfer to Cochrane.
7/1-- Rode POLAR BEAR EXPRESS to Moosonee and back.
7/2--Lv. Cochrane on NORTHLAND to Kapuskasing. Bus transfer to Hearst. Overnight in Hearst.
7/3-- Lv. Hearst on Algoma Central #2 arriving in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario that evening. Taxi transfer to American side.
7/4-- Lv. Sault St. Marie Michigan in caboose of Soo Line mixed train #909. Happy Fourth of July! Arrived in Gladstone, Mich. and connected by bus to Milwaukee, WI.
7/5-- Lv Milwaukee on Amtrak's NICOLLET to Chicago.
7/5-- Lv. Chicago on Amtrak's EAGLE. Arrive Austin the next day.
