We were coming home from up north and noticed when we drove past the train station in Oxnard, CA there were two Amtrak Engines pulling a bagage car followed by two MetroLink cars followed by the usual set up for the Coast Starlight. This was on Tuesday 29 Dec. What gives?

The cars were likely coming to or from a maintenance facility out of the LA area. They also could be coming from or going to the factory for delivery or warranty work. If either of these is the case, Amtrak was earning a few extra dollars by moving them.

Hope this helps. :)

I suspect that if Amtrak were looking for more capacity, they would place the Metrolink cars on Surfliners and Amtrak California trains and relieve them of the 75-seat Superliners they sometimes haul around. (I am not referring to the California-funded repair cars, which seat 92)
