Well I am not sure who the target for this Trip Report is but be warned now there is no amtrak riding for say. Just a quick ride on an NJ Transit train and back. However there are some amtrak related things in it. So read on if you wish.

Well I was supposed to leave at 7 55 AM but ended up on a the 4 07 NJ Transit Coastline to New York Penn wonderful. Here I am at long branch. Okay wonderful train has pulled up on time doors open. I decide to walk to the front of train. No one follows so now I am in a car all by myself in the front of the train, and oh my goodness I can see out of the front of the train and in the cab. This is going to be good except the sun is on its way down so not much daylight but hopefully I will be able to get some good pics. Only one in my car right now as we head underway. Oh my, I can see our speedometer nice this should be good. Well looks like it would have been great but the conductor is standing in front of the window looking forward chatting with the engineer :( rats. I can still see our speed though so far we've topped out at 85 and were not even on the NEC yet. Okay okay getting to long I am just on a commuter train but now lets do some background as to why I am taking this trip. Put simply I have nothing better to do so I said why not go grab a train to new york with my reservation paper and try scanning a my bar code at the quik trak machine. So here I am heading in to the city for about 15 minutes or so to scan my barcode and try and rail fan a little. Okay well now its time for I guess an observation before joining AU i thought nothing of having quick electrified double track main railroads so close to my house. Now I realize how lucky I am to be so close to this and the NEC. Well the sun has nearly set so there aren't going to be to many pictures as I have gotten distracted watching our speed so there won't be to many pics on this trip. I am starting to realize how fast this trip is elapsing I am already at the second to last station stop and I feel like i just got on. Crap, I was hoping this trip would get this rail bug well at least under control. Now its just making me itch for a longer trip... The NEC is quiet tonight got blown away by on AX coming through Newark Airport stop and thats it for other rail traffic. Okay going into the tunnel now I am going to be a little early which gives me 13 minutes until the return train leaves. Or I could stay for an hour hmm well we'll see. Okay whoa just passed a P42 inside of Penn Station is that allowed its number 705 i thought you couldn't have these down here?? Odd. Okay its game time with 11 minutes can I accomplish my goals or should I miss this train and stay here for an hour? Got my tickets printed the machine made things a snap every thing looked good so put those in my bill fold time to head to Dunkin Doughnuts for a cup of joe. Oh man should I stay or should I go? Acela is arriving on trak 11 West should I go see it why do I debate with myself so much? Okay decided to just come back so that means I was in new york for 11 minutes lol wow this addiction is getting bad. And this report is getting to long. So wrapping it up on my way home now really really really wishing I stayed at NYP a little longer. Okay half way home are you kidding already? Arrived 1 minute late okay well that was a run little ride.

Sorry that was so long for something so trival as it as but hey

Engine #705 would be a P32-ACDM the dual mode diesels that Amtrak uses on the Empire Corridor, and they are allowed into Penn since they can use LIRR third rail for power. 705 was most likely doing standby duty in case a train needed rescuing in a tunnel.

Was your AGR number on the tickets?

Thanks for the report! :)

Well the 705 was on the head end of like 6 or 7 or so not sure exact number of amfleets so I guess it could be an Empire Service train that came it. Not sure about the time table but thanks for clearing that up.

And yes my AGR number is on my ticket and even if i hadn't called there is a button on the screen that says add AGR number to the reservation I tapped it just to make sure as I have put my AGR number in as a contact in my cell phone so I had to ready but it gave me a screen saying AGR numbers have already been assigned to all paxs on the reservation. So yeah my AGR number is in the system
